  • Re: Question regarding diodes

    Thanks for the help.
I would like to avoid the use of heatsinks.
Couldn`t I use multiple diodes in parallel? Let`s say 4 diodes rated to 3 A in parallel.
Do you see any problem with this solution?

  • Re: Will placing caps in series double their voltage rating?

You are right. The voltage ratings of capacitor can`t be changed simply by putting them in series. What you accomplish by doing this is to divide the voltage potential among these capacitors. Since the parts might degrade at different rates, they might experience a different voltage level. In the worst case one part fails early and depending on the type of capacitor used the failure mode might be a short which forces the entire voltage drop across the non-failed capacitor.
    the voltage rating is based...

  • Question regarding diodes

    Hi guys,

I have a problem finding the right diode for my application. I need to put 2 power supplies (different types) in series and need to protect each of them from reverse currents using diodes. I believe that they already have diodes built in, but I want to take precautions.
So my problem is that I am not sure which diodes to order.
One power supply is 52V, 30 Amp and the other one is 30 V, 20 Amp. the circuit will be powered at 72 V and current could increase up to 12.5 Amp.
Since I am not experienced with diodes I am wondering which ones to choose....

  • Re: Dead Agilent u1732a

HP`s test instrument section was separated and continues to operate as Agilent.
I dont there are any circuit diagrams floating around.
Good luck repairing it, this Agilent equipment is kind of expensive.

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi my name is Michael.
I recently started in a graduate program at a eastern US university. My research field is capacitor failure analysis and failure detection in general. I just randomly found this forum and was curious.
Maybe I`ll get some ideas for my research here or might be able to help you with some insight since we probably have more opportunities in our institution to examine caps than you do
I have no experience in recapping though, but I think its quite interesting.
