• Re: LG 50uh5500 no picture

Update: after that ribbon test, somehow it turns on now. This is the most working I've ever seen this TV and it's really close to usable at this point. There is a horizontal line going all the way across the TV I'm not really too concerned about that unless there is a cheap and easy fix for it. It's only one single line and the rest of the image is there. The only current issue seems to be that the right side of the screen is distorted with what I would describe as an image burn issue. Everything on the right side of the screen is darker and the colors...

Sorry about that, how should I correct it?...

Okay so when both ribbons are plugged in, there's no visual display it's just the back lights. When I plug them in one at a time, the display shows up each time but one connection has a clear image on half the screen and the other connection shows a distorted image on the screen with a lot of vertical lines....

LG 50uh5500 no picture

I'm sorry for making a second thread but it seems like my first one died. To recap, LEDs are working and t con has been replaced but still no picture. Power to the mainboard is on point. This is my first time repairing a TV like this and I'd love to know how to fully test and diagnose the issue accurately. Thank you. My multimeter and I are standing by.

The eraser did make the cable-end look cleaner but same issue.

Another thing I just realized I forgot to post before was that an image came up at one point a couple days ago that said "input locked" and it was bouncing around the screen with some distortion right above it so, I figured it was a bad connection somewhere and reconnected everything but it never came back. Not sure if that helps at all.

Also, I noticed 2 buttons on the main board next to the metal plate. Any ideas what they might be?

19.7
22.5
19.7

It seems likely that the 22.5 is from the strip that I bypassed the one bad led. Power to mainboard is at 13v now and lights stay on but no picture.

Sorry for misreading but I got a reading of 1 on one side and it was blank on the other side so I rechecked the voltage and it did read 13v on both sides. I must've had it in a bad spot during the first reading. Sorry, I know your trying to help. I'm not trying to over complicate this. Thank you for taking the time to help me!

So, I think the problem with that one led was that it was separating internally somehow. That's the only explanation I can think of because it continued to fail testing, even after being removed from the strip.

I decided to try putting the tv together with a bit of copper wire where the bad led should be. I forgot to put the caps back on the working leds though which is noticeable when looking at the screen.

So, now the power doesn't cut out on it's own. No blinking red light. Leds light up and stay on but there's no picture;...

Just realized one more interesting thing by accident. That bad led, it actually does light up if you apply pressure to it. Maybe it just needs to be heated and reseated? This was an unexpected turn of events. I'm still trying to wrap my head around it because for hours I knew that led didn't light up and it just did.

I just ran an experiment on the bad strip. I attached a thin piece of copper wire to connect the top and bottom (+/-) of the bad led to bypass it and the rest of the strip lights up now. How bad of an idea would it be to put it back together and use it like that while I'm waiting for the replacement parts?

Thanks for the tip! Do you know how I could find out which LED these strips have on them? They look like they might be 3030 3v but I don't want to get the wrong one by mistake....

Well, I opened it up to test the led strips. 11/12 work perfect. I tested each of the leds on the one strip that didn't light up and it turned out 5/6 of them are good too. So, 71/72 leds work fine. It seems like only one actually needs to be replaced. I think what you're saying makes sense but I'd rather just replace the one than spend more $ on replacing all of them. Aren't the leds only about $1 each?...

If anyone reading this thread is in need of a decent tear down video for this model TV, shopjimmy posted this in March: https://youtu.be/Un80z_fJr7s

The only thing I noticed that they didn't mention was the black film covering the boards on the bottom of the tv. I'm guessing that film is unnecessary?Re: LG 50UH5500 need fix<br /> <br ...hing I noticed

LED1+ = 60v
LED2+ = 60v
LED3+ = 60v
LED1- = 7v
LED2- = 0.01V
LED3- = 6.7v

There doesn't appear to be any changes in voltage.

I went to shopjimmy to get prices of LED replacements but all they have are the full strip sets. I'd rather save money on doing the replacement on the strips that are in it. Any idea which specific LED model this TV uses?

Also, the psu is still giving 3v less to the main board than it shows it should be giving. Is this a problem or is it normal?...
