  • Re: ASUS PA246 LCD IPS screen no power

One of the connections on the capacitor C871 you replaced looks kind of dull in your pic. Could it be a cold joint? Much more competent then me will be along but, I would replace all of the capacitors.

I recapped the power board, monitor is now working great! Thanks petehall347 and R_J for your help and also Chris from Badcaps.net who provided the caps and technical information....

  • Re: Dell S2209WB monitor hard to turn on and shuts down by itself

Did I make a mistake with one of the series of capacitors I ordered? After ordering, I found the spec sheets and 4 of the new capacitors are PX series, which are rated standard with a load life of only 1000 to 2000 hours. All of the others ordered (ZLJ, ZLH series) are rated long life, with a load life of 6000 to 10000 hours and two RX series are rated automotive and LED lighting applications, with a load life of 1000 to 4000 hrs. The PX series will replace the bad ones on my board. Was this a poor choice?:facepa...

Thank you for the reply. Would increasing the voltage to 25V make them likely to last longer on my application? Four 330 uF 35V capacitors went bad on this monitor can I up the voltage here to make them last longer? If so to what? Thanks

  • Re: Dell S2209WB monitor hard to turn on and shuts down by itself

I am using Rubycon capacitors to recap the power board. Two of the 1000 uF 16V capacitors on my board have a diameter of 10mm and the Rubycon replacement ZLH series has a diameter of 8mm. I can get a Nichicon HZ series capacitor which also has a diameter of 10mm so I guess this would be the way to go?

I have spent a lot of time researching this with no definitive answer other then newer capacitors sometimes tend to be smaller and as long as they are rated the same I should be good.

    Also,...

I am going to recap the power board on this monitor, would it be a good idea to also recap the main board? Do main board capacitors frequently go bad? My very limited understanding is, capacitors are all prone to go bad so maybe I am answering my own question here?

Or, is the main board capacitors less likely to go bad? What would the experts here do?

  • Dell S2209WB monitor hard to turn on and shuts down by itself

Monitor is very hard to turn on, but if I keep trying, eventually, after many, many attempts, it will come on. Then it started shutting down by itself and it got harder and harder to get back on. I checked for shut off timer, and energy saver and they are not on.

My research showed this is a common problem with monitors and the capacitors may be the cause. I took the monitor apart and the power board does not "visibly" show anything wrong and the capacitors all "look" good. Same thing with the main board. Pics below

    Currently there does not seem...

  • Re: LG TV sound no picture, boards replaced

I found out like neilc6 said, when I run the photo/capture app. the backlight reverts back to the 90 default setting. I use this app to view pics and occasional home movies on a USB drive. When I use this app, I solve the problem by putting it on energy saver . My energy saver has 3 settings, “min”, “med”, and “maximum”. I put it on “minimum”. The backlight setting number does not work on the energy setting, but I estimate it to be about 60 on minimum. When I shut the energy saver off, it...

Thanks nomoresonys. There is a part of the update called:3. Release History
    [03.50.50]
    1. Improve the backlight turn-on failure

Since the problem with this set was the LED's burned out (the power board also burned up) I thought maybe there was something in this update other then turning the backlight down, that might prevent premature LED failure.

Budm I am adjusting "Backlights". My settings go 0 -100 The factory default setting was 90. I got the brightness on factory setting...

  • Re: LG TV sound no picture, boards replaced

Can you guys give me a recommended setting for the backlight? It seems factory setting is 90. I disabled auto picture and energy saver and got the backlight at 75 right now. Trying to avoid typical LG LED early death.

With the backlight setting turned down, is it really necessary to update the firmware? I do not use the TV with internet. Only other function I use is DVD / Blueray. Thank you for your help.

The black soot seems to have originated at the center, and possibly the upper right corner (look at the soot deposit on that blue component) of the power board, even though there are not any visible signs of bad components. The capacitors all "look" good. The center of the power board shows soot and also at the center of the back of the power board. This is all black soot which easily wipes away. The main board is clean. The front LED area was absolutely clean, not a smudge....

I have an update on my LG4300

I removed the screen, many thanks to nomoresonys, the video you gave me was very helpful. I was shocked to not find anything burned up. The wiring and all the LED's look pristine. I powered up the set without the screen and the top two rows of LED's are out. So only the bottom 18 are working. Nothing visibly notable about the top 18. Is it common for two whole rows to go out at once? Whatever burned up has to be on the power board or main board. Both have been replaced

    I understand...

Very informative neilc6, thank you. Nomoresonys, I think you might be right about the money pit. Been watching the videos and feel confident about the tear down now. Question. I know something had to burn up. If the reflector is burnt and or any of the layers of diffusion are burnt or stained, is the set still repairable? Will a slight burn mark effect the picture quality? What is and is not acceptable here? Cannot believe I researched before buying and got stuck with this junk. TV is only 22 months old!

  • Re: LG TV sound no picture, boards replaced

Tried video taping the split second flash. It is really fast. The "LG" and "lifes good" (not anymore) does not look right. Is this possibly what only a few working LED's might look like when flashed? These are stills captured at the best frame of video....

neilc6, Are you saying its possible to see the LED's that are out with the panel still mounted by video taping the screen? If so, I will do this next.

I seen the screws all at the bottom, did not see any on the sides or top

  • Re: LG TV sound no picture, boards replaced

Thanks everyone. I have been trying to learn all I can about removing the screen and trying to do everything possible to not have to do that if not necessary. I am collecting as many videos as I can on pulling the screen. It seems suction cups are the way to go for this?

I know about the thin film and being careful there just not sure yet about pulling the screen out. The flash I get when turning the TV on only lasts about a tenth of a second, just long enough to see the "LG" I thought the black soot was strange...

  • Re: LG TV sound no picture, boards replaced

My meter may not be detecting the voltage peaks accurately. I am confused as to why LED1- LED2- would show voltage. I thought they were grounds to the LED's?

I do not have a LED tester but I do have an old Knight regulated power supply. Could I use this to LED1+ and LED2+ to confirm back lights?

What do you think about the old board? The heat marks and black residue? Im guessing something went bad and maybe voltage spiked and blew some LED's out?...

These tests done with six pin connector leads to LED's disconnected, negative probe on chassis ground. Probes in place before turning TV on. Then turning TV on for reading.

    LED1- 0V
    LED2- 0V
same results when repeating test with six pin connector connected
