Thanks Bud,

I think it's time to give this board a proper burial. The pads still read 1.5 and since I don't know how to read a board, there's really no point for me to continue. I have no clue where to go next and I'm sure you have a lot more interesting projects and people that DO have a clue that you would rather be working with.

Can you recommend some material for beginners that might give me a better understanding of boards, ohms, resistance etc.. ?

Thanks again, at least I'm a tad more enlightened,...

Okay I'm sorry.

1) No matter how many times I try it I keep getting 14.5, 14.6 or 14.7 and the letter disappears next to the ohms symbol. The good board, unplugged from the power board reads 33.6 KOhm.

2) 1.5 Ohms bad board.

3) .257 kohms Good board....

I'm not sure what you mean by "both ways" you want me to put the red probe on ground and the black on A also?

The normal way black to ground and Red to + I get 14.7 ohms. This is the bad board NOT plugged into the power supply.

Here's a pic of the same spot on my board if it matters.

When I test the good one which is plugged into the power board I get 11.

and when I test that C3214 I get 1.4 unplugged from the power board.

The other good one reads .257 plugged in to the...

So I'm thinking I have to deal with that C3828 I took out first. Measured off the board and it just reads 0.L Then I soldered it back and it reads 85 ohms.
It's strange though because I know it's not polarized so shouldn't it read the same either way? One way reads 85 and the other reads 65. Is that normal?

I still need to take the tv apart and remove the new board and replace it with this one to continue following your troubleshooting instructions. Crossing my fingers I don't screw anything up now that it's working with...

First, here's the piece of crap meter I got. Doesn't even beep for shorts.

If that's not good enough, just let me know and I'll get a better one.

It looks like the cap is from C3828.

Here's a picture of where I pulled it from. I thought maybe because...

Sorry Bud,
I told you in the beginning I was an absolute novice. So am just unsure on how/what I'm checking. You said,

ALL 3.3V
P-ON +21V
Amp +13V

Not sure what all that means or how to check it. "P-ON" does that mean power on? and how do I know what's 21V? and what's Amp +13V? and how do I measure them?

You're obviously thinking I know more than I do. Again I'm an absolute beginner. "Don't get snippy with me mister!" lol

You said, you can't...

Okay so,
I believe I have all the tools I need to "maybe" figure this out.

Is it possible to find out what's wrong without actually putting it back in the TV? Like I said I have a replacement board that is working just beautifully and I would hate to have to take it apart if I don't have to, but if that's the only way, so be it. I just want to learn how to find the issue and repair it.

I've included some more pictures if that's helpful.

You mentioned a couple times C3214. I found...

Absolutely!

Thank you again Budm, I'll do just that as soon as I get the meter and will report back.

Well I hope that will do the trick because I ordered it, lol.

AND I can tell you for a fact that it's the main board because I found one on Ebay. and installed it today and voila! The TV is working!

I still want to learn how to fix the old one though, now that I've bought all the tools. I'll have the meter and soldering station tomorrow or Monday at the latest.

lol I actually just ordered a soldering station today. I'll have it in 2 days.

What do you think of this one?

Yes that board looks exactly like mine. The only difference is that board says

BA21FGF01 02 4 and mine is BA21FGF01 02 5

As I said before I only have the ESR meter. Would you suggest an Ohm meter and I'll order it immediately! Or would you recommend a multi meter... Whatever you think.

Thank you!

Got ya!

Here's a picture of the other board.. Power board?

Just to give you a little background. When I plug the TV in, it gives off a high pitched squealing sound. I found a video on youtube where the television did the exact same thing. When he unplugged the ribbon connecting the two boards, the squealing stopped. He then replaced one capacitor on the main board and voila the issue was resolved. So that's why I'm thinking maybe I have the same problem.

Here's the video. Mine is doing exactly the same...

Hey RJ,

Cool I attempted to upload them here. Hope it works.

As far as the power supply goes, I am an absolute novice and have no clue. I'm use to working on PC boards so when you say power supply I'm thinking "PSU" I know that's not what you're referring to but sorry I can't answer the question.

This is my first attempt at a TV board....

Thanks for the response budm!!

Here's a couple pictures...

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/ktf8biovy8vpfvj/AADTvPwTpqBGNbycyHP5E3jGa?dl=0

I wasn't sure if I could upload them here or not.

I didn't desolder the caps, I tested them inline. But out of the 4, 25v 47uf caps, 3 read .710 and 1 reads 2.1 leading me to believe that one is bad since the chart on the meter says that particular one shouldn't read above 1.2.

and again, I don't what the lower voltage ones should...

Hey everyone!
So I have a TV that just died. Magnavox 32ME402V/F7.
Pretty sure it's a bad capacitor.

I'm sure I found one that's bad using my ESR tester. But I have two questions.

The one that's bad according to my tester is a 25v 47 mocrofarad SMD aluminum cap. Soneone said I can't just use any general purpose cap. That I needed to know what series to get. I have no clue what cap to replace this with.

My second question is... I have one cap that's 4 volts, 330uF and another that's 6.3 volts, 220uF. My ESR (or MESR) Tester has a chart...
