Re: Samsung Hlp5063w problems
ok, replaced color wheel, it was working and customer was happy.
then got call from customer saying it worked for a few days, now takes 30 minutes of unplugging and replugging to get it to come on and he demands his money back.
I told him to sell the tv on cragslist and I will refund him the difference (i dont want it back not knowing what he has done to it), but I am stumped as to how this problem occurred when it was working when i left.
best I can figure is dirty power, or a defective customer...

Re: reviving vizio power supply
mabey, I just got it from a local shop, not sure what its specs are apart from being .1ohm and rated for 3 watts....

Re: reviving vizio power supply
the red bloby thing?
that is a .1ohm resistor that replaced a blue .1ohm resistor with a hole in the side....

Re: reviving vizio power supply
replaced the blown transistor, now both +5v lines read 4.2v when hooked up to the main board/led.
when tested without load they read 5v, but clearly dont have the power to drive the board.
still waiting on caps from digikey, will recap, then try again.

Re: Samsung Hlp5063w problems
went and looked at the unit, the timer light donent flash, the lamp light flashes like the unit is starting, then it resets 3 times and flashes all three lamps.
power supply was deleviring cprrect voltage to balaast, but balast wasnt powering the lamp, also color wheel wasnt spinning up.
when I was probing the balast board the color wheel spun up.
Is this a color wheel problem or is it a ballast problem?

Samsung Hlp5063w problems
I sold an HLP5063 a few weeks back after replacing the lamp.
customer called today, and said it turns on then flashes the timer lamp and shuts off, and if cycled on and off 3 times all three lights on the front flash.
customer also says by unplugging and repluging the tv it somtimes will come on for awhile.
I have the service manual, but it dosent describe anything like this issue, I will be going to the customer tommorow, and would like to have an idea of what to check.

thanks, got the transistor from electronix
any reason to order a new primary cap?

I looked up the elite caps, and am replacing the big ones with panasonic FM's
however the small ones are listed as "low impedance high ripple" what is sutibale for that?
also another cap is an elite EA cap wich isnt listed

reviving vizio power supply
I got a vizio 32"lcd with a bad power supply for $20
initialy unit failed to do anything when plugged in.
found a resistor blown, and replaced it, now yellow light on front flashes, and 5 volt lines read 4.2 and 2.3 volts.
also found a transistor with signs of arcing corisponding with arcing marks on the metal housing of the tv.
put arced transistor on my multimeter, it read 0
i assume that is bad
transistor is a1273, capacitors are "elite" brand, should i replace those at the same...

Re: Westinghouse LTV-32W6 intermittent fault
ouch
and I doubt the LCD panel would work after that either.
unit was mounted on wall in customer's son's room, he has big speakers, so it was also likely subjected to vibrations.
customer will be glad to have an excuse to tell son to turn down volume...

Re: Westinghouse LTV-32W6 intermittent fault
that makes sense, when I was checking voltages and it refused to fail the tv was laying flat. when it failed, it was usualy upright.
Unfortunately I dont have the equiptment to reflow the bga and surface mount parts properly, so i will have to replace the main board....

Re: Westinghouse LTV-32W6 intermittent fault
and it now is working perfectly......
but i did nothing except test the voltages
It even turns off and back on without trouble right now...
I guess i might need to just replace the main board and hope it is fixed, though Id hate to do that without knowing that it would stay fixed.

Re: Westinghouse LTV-32W6 intermittent fault
well, so far i havent been able to get readings off it, but got new symptoms...
it now wolnt recognise hdmi signals from my computer, claiming invalid format before shutting off.
honestly, im not interested in reparing the main board but just need to verify that it is the fault so i can replace it.
it also wolnt turn off once it gose into fail mode, i have to unplug it to turn it off.
