• Re: 2sb649a

I am going to go through this thread again. Look at all things recommended. All trannys recommended. And test. I'll be back.
Suffice to say yes, so far Q713 is shorted. R717 is cooked....

Thank you to you both.
I have looked at datasheets for NTE374 and 2SB649A. Unless I am missing something they look identical. The only downside is it means an extra 15 quid delivery with farnell because it is special order (from US).

I guess I would rather replace like with like. But I am interested in knowing what parameters I can ignore.

Why does everyone seemingly hate NTE?...

• Re: NAD C320BEE - JH Capacitors

I thought I would bump this thread because I am soon going to attempt to fix a C370.. the caps is the easy part.. it's trying to find a suitable transistor to replace Q712 2SB649A that is causing me the brain ache..

https://www.badcaps.net/forum/attach...2&d=1407703892

The NAD was bought in 2003 and failed three times before taking out a resistor and a transistor in 2010. It was fixed two times by Lenbrook. They did not do a good job. ALL the caps are bad. I have Technics and Arcam amps still going strong...

Well.. that's the problem.. I don't have the experience to know which parameters don't matter and which do. Some of the parameters of the KSA1220A are spot on, others vary.

The service manual is on this very site..

Transistor Q712

2sb649a

This transistor is no longer available and most all on the net (ebay etc) are fakes. I think NTE 374 is the closest equivalent. Can someone experienced please confirm this is a good choice?

• Re: Did/do manufacturers sometimes source different caps for the same product?

Thanks again. Really interesting. These two amps seem very well specced, which probably explains why they have lasted so long...

I will be asking another question or two soon on the audio forum here, I have a younger but less healthy NAD C370 I plan to recap.. my first recap... I plan on tackling all the main board and left and right power amp caps... gulp

Thank you for your replies. I guess I just assumed a particular model produced for a short time would always have the same parts inside. I also though since it was Technics that I would only see Panasonic inside. So a few Elnas and a TK inside one of the units was a surprise.

Hi
I have acquired two very good condition vintage amplifiers: both are Technics 900mkII circa 1995.

They both work fine. Inside they looked great. The caps still look good (I will investigate properly later with an esr meter etc). I note with interest that most of the caps are identical and made by Panasonic, however, there are some capacitor differences here and there. For example, in one of the units there is a cap made by TK Japan, and several small yellow Elnas. In the other unit I think they are all Panasonic.

There doesn't appear to have been any repair...

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi
My name is Garth. I live in England, about 30 miles from London. I visited this site years ago. I am aware that all caps are not equal. I have never posted before but I now have my first recapping project that maybe you can help me with. So hopefully I can work out how to make my first post!
