  • Re: ESR meter reading implications

Actually, if R=0 then I is undefined. I wish I had a nickel for every time I've been corrected on that one. However, as R->0, I->infinity... if V is positive.

I usually prefer I*R=V. Then I don't get anyone telling me that I divided by zero.

  • Capacitor Temperature Rating

I've been looking around for an hour or two and there's lots of great information here on capacitors. However, I haven't found much about temperature ratings on caps. I've been mostly looking this up because I found all of the caps on my motherboard that busted are within milimeters from the heat sink and about half a centimeter from my CPU.

So, is it better to put caps with a higher temperature rating in close proximity to a CPU or is it not really worth the effort?

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi. I'm here because I had 9 Nichicon, 6 1.500 mF and 3 3.300 mF, fail on my motherboard. So, I'm studying up on how to remove the damaged capacitors and attach some working ones. Since they're ones that are next to the CPU, I'm contemplating replacing them with some capacitors that have a higher temp rating. From what I've seen, I thought I'd include a photo since this seems to be quite the show and tell group. I'm actually impressed that it didn't fry the whole system. I'm think about changing all of the capacitors, but that...
