Re: Hakko FR301 and FX600 decent for motherboard recapping?
Thanks for the recommendations guys!
I am a little hesitant about potentially modifying my own equipment, but I guess it's no different from any other electronics work I suppose.
Which particular Pace station/iron would you choose over the Hakko gun?
This video led me to believe I may not need to pre-heat/heat the motherboard:

I guess the only way to find out is to try... good thing I have plenty of...

Hakko FR301 and FX600 decent for motherboard recapping?
Hey all,
It's been a long time since I last worked with any motherboard-type PCB (original XBOXs), but I am looking at a stack of DFI nF4s I'd like to recap.
My most recent soldering has just been mechanical keyboards and PC fan-controllers with a cheapo soldering iron (UY CHAN TS100). I'm wondering if a Hakko FX600 is a better choice?
I also need a desoldering gun, the Hakko FR301 looks pretty decent - does anyone have experience with that model and motherboards here?
Any other suggestions (preferably <$500 for both, but there's some wiggle room)?...

Re: DFI nF4 recap with all polymers?
Thanks guys!
I will most likely be following up with a post in the Motherboard section once all the boards and parts are here.

DFI nF4 recap with all polymers?
Hi everyone,
I have some DFI nF4 boards coming in to try and relieve some nostalgic times. A few of the boards have bulging caps and I'd like to just recap the entire boards to make a fun project of several weekends.
I am not entirely new to this replacing caps thing, having swapped out some bad caps on original Xbox motherboards while completing my EE undergrad.
I am curious if there are any electrical issues (yes my undergrad is EE but I mostly work in CPU logic design and OS/firmware now so... it's been a while hah) with replacing all caps on DFI nF4 motherboards...
