  • Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

An Apple MacBook A1260/A1226 with a bad 8600M GT. So there's no display activity via internal or external. At least the DVD drive makes a noise and fans spin. But now I need to figure out how to replace the GPU, as I don't have the right hardware to do it. And I'm not really going to just replace the board entirely and be done with it.

  • Re: ThinkPad T400 fan in a 14.1in T61 widescreen?

Update on this: The replacement blades on the other fan fit just fine with the original, and since the unit has been repasted with the heatsink reinstalled it's been perfectly passive at 45c with the MX-2 paste I used.

  • Re: Post your system.......

Current system as my main, not really a box but a laptop:

    Asus G752VT
    Core i7 6700HQ
    GTX 970M
    16GB RAM
    256GB SSD + 1TB 7200RPM HDD
    17.3in 1920x1080 IPS G-Sync 75Hz

    Other laptop (Elitebook 8470p):

    Intel Core i5 3320M
    AMD Radeon 7570M
    16GB RAM
    500GB SSD
    1600x900 14.1in panel @ 60Hz

I'll get images of them once my desk is re-done and tidied, it's a complete mess and makes a bad impression if I do some now.

    Any recommendations for the tape?...

I thought about that, but I found a candidate to replace the entire assembly and will keep the heatsink and replacement fan for another unit that may also have issues on hand.

    I appreciate all suggestions!...

I'll bear this listing in mind, I appreciate it.

But it was a question out of curiosity. My only worry on buying that one will have the same issues with the one I had last, with the pits for the metal copper tabs that surrounds the fan not lining up correctly,...

  • ThinkPad T400 fan in a 14.1in T61 widescreen?

So, my cheap find has an issue with the fan being rattly, and as a result when I removed the heatsink and fan assembly, the glue and foil has perished from the fan and fins on the heatsink. At the moment I did buy a replacement fan but upon fitting, or trying to, it wasn't even a match.

Now I'm figuring out whether a T400 fan is compatible with my 14.1in T61 Intel-only widescreen, as all I'm looking for is a replaced fan and a working unit again.

I'd appreciate any input on this before I gallivant eBay and the like.

  • Re: best cheap/free scores 1.1

I acquired my ThinkPad T61 today for about £50 and is in really good nick. A 2.00GHz model (with the 1280x800 panel) but the condition it's in is borderline immaculate barring the shiny keyboard. It gave me some leeway to pretty much build it up if parts happen to get a little bad. And the BIOS is a modded Middleton one, which removes the whitelist.

The fan could be replaced, however... It croaks when it spins down, but I can deal with that a little later. Parts seem to be available at the ready so I'm prepared for it with the maintenance...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hello, I'm a new user here, and by that a potential newbie when it comes to repairing motherboards. At the moment I can only replace with a working one but not directly fix the current board. So here, with potentially information that I may require will be of use to me for many years to come. I'm just willing to learn no matter how long it'll take.
