First of all -THANKS TO EVERYONE here. Nice of all of you to fight the insanity of multi-hundreds of bucks to fix things. Like paying $800-$2000 for a new TV when all you need to do is replace the capacitors on the power supply.

That is where I am. I found references to the model TV I have (a PolaROID - as in hemmeroid). It ran fine, and many on the net have reported the same problems -- the display dims from some lights not coming on, then goes black. The problem takes a few days to weeks to go completely bad.
