Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Backlighting is really strong. Thinking about putting it back together and using it as a lamp for the garage, haha ...

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
I honestly can't even find one.
Appreciate all the help, regardless! Learned a few things along the way!

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Good chance I inflicted this damage when I took it apart all the way. Won't ever know, but lessons learned the hard way!

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Is there any chance of replacing this ribbon? There's some mild creasing in the others but this one is ripped (and I'm assuming the burning is a result).
Replacing the panel?...

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Worth noting that I cleaned and looked over the LCD pretty damned closely with a flashlight during the first troubleshoot to ensure it wasn't damaged (to the best of my knowledge).

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Good news: Seller refunded both boards w/o me having to send them back.
New powerboard was half as much, so saved a bit of money there.
New powerboard works! Hell yeah!
Bad news: Picture isn't. (see picture of picture).
I tried both mainboards and both sets of ribbons (have two of each now) to no avail. The picture remains nearly unchanged (came through a little clearer but with the same fragmenting).
What's my next step?...

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
I've done a few charging ports on laptops and whatnot, but given I just bought the board I'm going to do my best to work out getting a functioning board from the seller.
My soldering equipment is also of the lowest quality, so there's that.
I genuinely appreciate the help! I'll update the thread whenever I have something to report.

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
TV that 'appears' dead.... and for all intents and purposes is?
I imagine that with nothing connected the issue would then be with the PSB?...

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
With 20V DC and probes touching where illustrated I still have a reading of 0.
Is there a separate 5V standby or were you referencing the 3.3V?...

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Yes, figured 20V was appropriate for those pins.

Here you go, you tell me, haha
At the connector, I'm using 20V DC...Last edited by Kildar; 02-06-2019, 02:30 PM.

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
My meter peaks @ 600V, will that suffice?
They both read 162VLast edited by Kildar; 02-06-2019, 02:26 PM.

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
Okay, so fuse tested good. (Correct me if I'm wrong that cont + low ohms = serviceable)
With nothing but power connected to PS:
Readouts are still all 0. Continuity is present with all ground pins....

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
You know, I have this bad habit of taking things apart that don't need to be. I stripped the TV down to basically every component. Took me longer than I'd like to admit to realize that the lamp connectors butterfly open. I'm putting the LCD back in place right now and then will report back with what I find from the PS readouts.Last edited by Kildar; 02-06-2019, 01:52 PM.

Re: Vizio E500AR No Power
What I mean is I don't know what I'm doing. Testing for continuity between the ends I get continuity on one of the fuses. The same fuse gives a very low resistance reading. I'm assuming the one with no cont is blown. Going to try to get everything put back together and report back with readings (no MB attached).
Thank you for your patience, all....

Vizio E500AR No Power
Got a Vizio E500AR from the curb (could have been hit by lightning, idk). TV had no power/standby lights illuminating when plugged in. This TV has very few component boards so I feel like it shouldn't be too difficult to fix. I'd like to use this TV as a D&D map supplement.
I ordered this kit:

Replaced both the mainboard + PS board and the respective cabling but to no avail.
