  • Re: panasonic tx-48ax630b trouble

you were quite right, i eventually found 1 bad led that was lighting fine but drawing too much power and causing the bl_sos. the tv is now working again though it does have some lines on the screen that may have been there before i even got the tv or maybe as a result of damage from getting into the pannel (bloody thing was glued together and fought a good fight to stay glued together lol) but anyway thanks for the advice and just though i should let you know that you was correct....

ok so i finally had time to mess with this a bit more and eventually found 1 led that was working but drawing way more power than the others causing the bl_sos. sooooo...... now i got the tv working but it has some narrow horizontal black lines on the screen starting darker from the right and going to just over half way across the screen and fading to invisible by the time they get to the left side of the screen. there are about 10 - 12 randomly spaced lines, hard to get a photo but you can just about make out the lines. i have checked all the connections...

i started with checking with a led tester and all the lines seemed ok but i still wasnt convinced so i have taken he lcd off and checked each led strip individually and all are drawing the same voltage and every led is working.

i tried checking the voltages on the power supply but the time between switching the tv on and it going into fault mode is literally a split second so dont have time to get a reading....

  • panasonic tx-48ax630b trouble

    hi guys im back again.

i got this tx-48ax630b panasonic that i thought had backlight issues but its something else.

the tv powers on green led flashing for a split second when all the backlights flash on just for a second then goes off and red led flashes 1 time continuously. i checked all the backlights and double checked again and seemed ok but i took the screen off anyway just to make sure and every led is fine.

very occasionally when it is unplugged and powered back on the tv will stay on but 99% of the time its just as described. what advice is...

  • Re: Panasonic TX-L42B6B – LED Single Blink

whilst i agree that theses LG panels (vestel panels too) do seem to have longevity issues i wouldn't necessarily blame the manufacturers for 'overdriven LEDs'. there are settings in the menu to adjust the backlight. some would say that the LEDs should be 'limited' to extend their lifespan but you could say the same for anything, i cant see many Ferrari owners agreeing to having their cars revs limited in order to extend the lifespan of the engine or reduce the chance of them having a high speed collision, just because...

  • Re: Panasonic TX-L42B6B – LED Single Blink

just in case anyone is interested i have just been messing around with a TX-L50B6B which is basically just the bigger brother. it was given to me as not working, the backlights were just flashing on / off constantly & rapidly but there was no BL_sos / fault.

first thing i did was check the supply to the backlights, on this version there are 2 circuits each supplying 3 pairs of strips. with the BL disconnected the outputs were both fine and exactly the same but with the BL connected both the voltages went haywire. from...

still waiting for my new led, will update when its here and fitted but in the meantime i found this online that might be of help to others (borrowed from an ebay listing for Model: TC-L42E50 which from what i can see is the american version of TX-L42E5B)...........

  • Re: Panasonic TX-L42E5B powering off

OK well i bit the bullet and attacked it with a screwdriver

about 30 minutes and what seemed like 250 screws later im inside the screen.

just 1 led bar as i suspected and sure enough 1 led is off totally and about half the leds come on then go off almost instantly, they can be coaxed to stay on with a bit of tapping / pressure so im guessing theres a bad solder joint somewhere.

ebay to the rescue again and a new led strip ordered from China for about £17 pity it will take so long to...

not sure, i didnt even take the back off the tv yet but a local guy here seems to think its an LG panel and hes 99% sure its going to be a led problem.

i cant find much info about this tv online, is there just 1 led bar or 1 each side (i know its side lit) i looked on ebay and i can only see listings for 1 side, they all seem to be right side which leads me to think there may only be 1 side lit?
also has anyone done the backlights on this tv before? is it as easy as the vestel (toshiba) set i have done...

  • Re: Panasonic TX-L42E5B powering off

there is no backlight setting in the menu i looked for it earlier.

i did however notice that the lower half of the screen gets 'dim' just before it shuts down and when trying to restart it the lower half is 'dim' sometimes which is when it goes back off within seconds yet other times the lower half seems 'normal brightness' when first switched on, then it goes for hours and hours before the problem re-occurs....

  • Panasonic TX-L42E5B powering off

Hi again everyone, one of our other TV's has started having a problem so hope someone might be able to help me get it fixed.

its a Panasonic TX-L42E5B. it works fine for hours and hours then randomly goes off. when it goes off the red light flashes once every 2 / 3 seconds and then repeats endlessly. the remote will not operate it when the light is flashing. turning the tv off / on with the power button or unplugging from the wall and then powering it back on works. when it comes back on it then works again, sometimes for a few seconds and sometimes for hours and hours. ive checked...

i was very lucky to find the exact same model tv with identical power supply etc. god knows what caused the old power supply to fail but it would be nice to find an explanation and repair the fault, even if its just to have a spare in case of future problems or even just for curiosity....

yeah i did run it at the default 'high' settings for a good few hours, working on the theory that if it was going to fail id rather find out sooner rather than later. i have now turned it down to low and rebuilt the tv again and so far its been on over 24 hours without a problem. hope t stays this way lol...

Well what can i say........... IT WORKS AGAIN

paid £10 for the tv with impact damaged screen and swapped the main board into mine and nearly died when it works for 10 seconds and then the backlights went off again. swapped the power board into mine and so far its been on working fine for 3 hours. might swap the main board back to my original (mine has the updated firmware already installed).

    total cost now stands at:-

original tv free (from a friend)
    full set of...

despite being from a very similar model number tv the mainboard part number is not even close to being the same, although physically it looks pretty much identical, just thought it would be worth asking if anyone knows about compatibility.

    edit....
i might have just solved my problem. found for sale the same model tv with a smashed screen so should be able to use that to cannibalise for as many parts as i need. shame its 40 miles away but i can cope with that. might even get to find out where to put this...
