  • Re: Dead Laptop after attempting to replace Inverter Board

No Boot from either the old or new inverter boards.

Do I need to remove the MOSFETs to check for shorts? Some of the MOSFETs are too small to work with my soldering iron. I know, I should be using a hot air workstation. Also, are you talking about the motherboard or inverter board?

Inverter ground is good. Before I shorted the two points, I forgot to install the screw (ground) and the laptop would not turn on.

    Thanks for all your help!...

I unplugged the connector at the motherboard and it does not turn on. One thing I know for sure is if the inverter board is unplugged or not grounded, it will not boot up.

    Thanks for your help....

  • Re: Dead Laptop after attempting to replace Inverter Board

Thank you all for the quick replies. Pin#1 is 18V

With the battery in, I am getting ~18V at that point and also both ends of the fuse. This is the old board and I replaced it with a spare fuse I had for testing purposes with the same amperage but it's a fast acting fuse instead of the OEM slow blow.

  • Dead Laptop after attempting to replace Inverter Board

My laptop's backlight was not turning on, so I attempted to replace the inverter. While checking the voltage and testing the fuse on the old board, one of the leads from my MM slipped and touched the fuse and pin#1 on the connector leading to the mother board.

Now after replacing the inverter, the laptop does not turn on at all. The only thing I get is the charge light when I plug in the AC adapter.

I went as far as opening the laptop and checking the F1 fuse along with several other fuses and resistors but they all checked out fine.

    Anyone have any...

  • Re: Onkyo TX-SR705- No Sound

I would also like to add that the Video and Audio pass-through works fine with my TV. I have my DirecTV dish connected through HDMI to the receiver and from the receiver to my TV with good video and audio (through TV speakers). I also have tried other inputs using composite and component cables without any problems.

I measured the voltage at the speakers and they're at 0 volts.

Also, one thing I've noticed when I power on the unit is that I hear 3 clicks. If my memory is correct, I recall only hearing two clicks (it's been...

Thank you for your input. I am a novice when it comes to repairing electronics, but I can eventually figure some things out on my own with the help of people who have a wealth of knowledge in this area. I can test/replace some of the components and trace circuits but that's as much as I can do. I have already discharged many of the capacitors before I mess with it more this weekend.

Sending it off to a technician is an option but I have already decided not to stick anymore money into it. It's out of warranty and I've already...

    Onkyo TX-SR705- No Sound

I've got a Onkyo TX-SR705 receiver and there is no sound output to any of the speakers even after trying all the inputs. I have already done several resets to the unit by holding the DVD + Standby buttons with no success.

This leads me to believe the output transistors are shot and they are on the main board which is on the bottom. I'm a little confused to which one are the output transistors. There is a large heatsink that towards the front of the receive (by the display) which I circled in red and another set on a smaller heatsink towards the rear of the receiver (circled in blue)...

  • Re: Bad CCFL? DAC-19M009

I wish I would have known that earlier. When I typed in "LCM-22W2" in eBay's search, it only returned one seller - laptoplcdparts. I will try to contact them and see if they can do something with the two unused tubes given they have pictures of the longer leads on their listings. There's no way I can wrap the wire around the stub.

If there were just a few more mm at the leads, I would have already been done with it. I ended up adding solder to the lead and then the wire and then heated them when I was able to touch...

Good to know. Looks like I won't be buying anymore CCFL's on eBay anymore.

    Thanks

  • Re: Bad CCFL? DAC-19M009

I can't believe this has turned into the most frustrating experience ever. I have anything but steady hands and trying to hold the wire, CCFL tube, soldering iron and solder at the same time was a challenge. I bought some bulbs on eBay and that may have been partly due to them. Are the CCFL tubes suppose to come with longer leads on the end that you cut down to size? I attached a picture of the eBay CCFL tube.

Also, one of the solder joints ended up being too large, so I pulled it out again. I ended up tearing one of the silicon end caps and...

    Great, thanks again guys.

I think I will end up replacing all four CCFL tubes. From my experience with working on vehicles, if one side has failed, the other side is probably not too far behind.

  • Re: Bad CCFL? DAC-19M009

    Great advice guys, thank you!

I attached the pictures of the tubes, top and bottom (4 total). The top two were the ones making the noise and I believe they are cracked, which I outlined in the picture.

This is the first time I've ever replaced CCFL's in anything so do you guys recommend I replace all four or will I be fine by replacing just the top two? Also, is there a place where I can order these and do I need to worry about wattage, size, ect or are they all pretty much universal (except length)? This is for a Westinghouse 22"...

  • Re: Bad CCFL? DAC-19M009

Well, I plugged in two CCFL tubes from another monitor and the noise went away. So it appears that I will need to replace at least two of them.

    Bad CCFL? DAC-19M009

I'm working on a DAC-19M009 board. I got it to display picture by replacing all the caps but as soon as I move the monitor, it will shut off and I can hear one of the transformers making a grinding noise. If I tap on the case, the monitor will shut off but if I keep it laying face down, it will usually stay on. I've checked all connectors and everything is secured.

BTW, I'm hearing a slight humming/squealing noise which is coming out of a hole which I circled in red. Excuse the ccfl connectors as they are not arranged correctly (previous owner had them installed that way)....

  • Re: Issue with Westinghouse 19" LCD Monitor (large pics)

Could someone help me identify this diode? I have a couple of these that are shorted. I've replaced all the capacitors, 40T03GP MOSFET and checked all fuses. I found several SMD resistors that had very high resistance (0.2 ohms -> 1.9 megaohms) along with these shorted diodes.

I believe these are LL4148 diodes, but I would like someone who is familiar with these to verify. Thanks...
