Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
I've checked both resistor groups for both sides. All seems fine readings for 3.3k are about ~3.27k and for 15.2 are from 14.8-15.4 ohms.
I cannot be sure that CD3215 was soldered correctly. I'm gonna buy one more chip and resolder it on another place. Any other ideas till the chip come?...

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
So I did the diode meassurements and put my readings next to yours. Also checked those 4 20vc caps: CB301, CB401, C3101 and C3201. The 4 of them behave the same and it's like this:
- black probe on GND gives non stable readings, jumping from k to mOhms and can't get any stable data. Only once I was able to get about 4mOhs and rising on CB301. Not sure if there was a contact issue with my probes
- red probe on GND gives readings about 533Ohm on all of the caps
No sure, but I will get a better multimeter and check...

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
So I've meassured everything arround U6903(MAX77596). This is the result:
- pin1 P3V3G3H_VBST 7.8V
- pin2 PPVIN_G3H_P3VG3H 4.85V
- pin3 P3V3G3H_LX. 3,43V
- pin8 P3V3G3H_BIAS 4.85V
- pin9 P3V3G3H_FB. 1.01V
- pin10 PM_EN_P3V3_G3H. 5.01V
I've put a video where measurung the 20V line caps arround the CD3215s. One of them stays on arround 10kOhm and the rest 3 of them are rippling a lot. I suspect the one, which is stable is on the port that stays on 5V constantly whithout bootlooping.

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
Yeah, I've watched this video a couple of times, that's why I've checked the diode. I will make more measures and check the 20V line...

Could it be something with thunderbolt RAMs ?

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
This is a video how the 4 USB-C behave. Only one is not boot looping, and the rest are. However, the one that doesn't boot loo, at some point the Amparage drops to 0 and then rises again to 40-50mA, looping in it's own way. I'm not sure what to meassure now, and how much CD3215 to order and replace...

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
Any idea from where to source a good CD3215C00? I bought one from ebay, but I cannot be sure it was ok. However, the one cutting the power is different from the one that was changed.

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
There are some strange things going on. The usb-c meter recognize 5V only from one of the sides, and on one of the usb-c there is interupts after about 10s, goes to 0V and then again 5.2V. On the second port it works without flickering. The other side stays dead. I'm pretty sure it was working too, before I put the mother board inside the laptop. There are no other ribbon cables connected, just the USBs. I will put the board out againg and check, if I there is some bad connection to this side ports. P3V3_G3H is present and it's 3.3-3.4V. The...

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
I have 3 original 61W usb-c apple chargers. I have another macbook pro and I verified they are working well, and also tested the usb-c meter working fine. The battery is disconnected and never put back while diagnostic work. I bought the CD3215C00 from ebay, so I can suspect bad chip, or bad reflow work as I cannot be 100% sure it was done properly. But the short is gone and there is 3.3V there now. As I can see from this power rail name PPVIN_G3H_P3V3G3H
isn't 4.8V voltage too high?
Will a new CD3215C00 work right a way, without...

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
The CD3215 finally arrived and I gave it to a workshop to reball it. It was replaced, but the laptop is still dead. The short on PP3V3_UPC_XB_LDO is gone and there is 3.3V now there.
I saw that the PPBUS_G3H is not present, but it's not shorted. It behaves strangely, varies from 750k to ~ 400k but while measuring it's dropping instead of rising. So I focused on D6902 diode.
D6902 diode pinout:
- 1. PPBUS_G3H 300mV 400-750kOhm
- 2. PPDCIN_G3H_CHGR 5.2V
-3. PPVIN_G3H_P3V3G3H 4.8V

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
There is no liquid damage, and I never used a knockoff adapter. I have 2 genuine Apple AC adapter, but one of the USB-C cables started to make bad contact, not sure if that can cause the chip burn out. I have some backup's, so I can try to save the board, and even something happens, nothing major will be lost.
P.S. I took a closer look and I'm not sure that this BGA is underfiled. I cannot see epoxy on the edges.Last edited by miro.manchev; 04-20-2020, 03:49 PM.

Re: Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
Unfortunatelly I don't have an USB-C volt and ampermeter. I've ordered one, but I couldn't wait it to arrive, so I used only my multimeter. The CD3215 look like glued or something, and my idea was to bring it to someone experienced in BGA soldering, I cannot risk ruin the board, as my data is still thereI put an image showing clearer the chip's base....

Macbook Pro A1706 doesn't power on
Hi, my own laptop died. One morning it doesn't start up. No charging, nothing. I've opened it, found the boardview and schematic, here in the forum. So I was able to trace some power lines.
I know about the Enable power line for USB-C chips so my PP3V3_G3H is 3.3V and seems fine. Then I saw that PPBUS_G3H is very low, about 0,51V. After some tracing on the board, I found short on PP3V3_UPC_XB_LDO, which is near one of the CD3215C00. Firstly I saw a ceramic cap ( C3208), that looked a bit blackish, so I've unsolder it, but the short remained. So, do you think if I replace CD3215C00...
