Re: Water Damage to Dell PowerEdge R710
The scorch mark, seemed to be caused by a fried circuit, is by the back panel connectors on one of the very tinychips. I looked around that area more and saw more water damage, white marks on the board(I'm guessing it's corrosion?). The current objective I was given by my boss is to find a replacement board that would be compatible with all the other devices that are in the machine. I have no pictures, still in the process of getting a camera) but I'll try and put up a picture of the motherboard with the spots that have damage...

Re: Water Damage to Dell PowerEdge R710
Was looking thoroughly at the motherboard and found a scorch mark. Dell warranty is expired apparently and a replacement of the current board in there is $950. So, I'm looking for a replacement server motherboard that doesn't go higher then say $400. It needs to have dual 1366 socket and support intel eon E5500 processor. I have 6 sticks of ram that is hynix 2gb ddr3 8500E, so there has to be at least 6 DIMM slots. I've looked at some asus boards and some intel boards and so far the cheapest has been $260 for the asus Z8NA-D6C found on newegg....

Re: Water Damage to Dell PowerEdge R710
Not sure if they were on when it happened, but they were almost brand new at the time. It's still under warranty so it isn't a big deal. Was just wondering if anyone knew of a quick little solution to the problem. Thanks for your time and input on this....

Re: Water Damage to Dell PowerEdge R710
From what I recall it was the result of a burst pipe or some flooding on the floor above the servers. I am not sure of the amount of water that the systems received due to my involvement with this company occuring far after (6-7 months) this event occured....

Water Damage to Dell PowerEdge R710
A machine (Dell PowerEdge R710) just came in that had water damage to it a while back. It won't boot but the led's on the motherboard light up. Tried the troubleshooting method in the manual for if the machine got wet but that didn't work. Wondering if anyone has a any solutions or ideas on how to get this machine up and running again.
Edit: Here is the manual:

Re: Dell Studio XPS 16 Notebook Blue Screen Trouble
With hearing that I think I'm going to call dell technical support this weekend and have them check the hardware and if there isn't a problem with any of it I'll do a clean install. As of right now I don't think it would be reasonable to just go and do a clean install when the cause of the problem hasn't been identified....

Re: Flipped the power switch on my psu and spark on mobo
That may be the case and to be honest I really didn't even check any of that because I have no idea what that means or what it does. I just went and found the watt requirement for the board. On the note of the HEC though. It may very well have worked fine with the system. Just by the time I received it there was no noise when I turned it on and there was no response from any of the devices in the system. I'm not an expert but I think that means it is dead. I find it suprisingly odd though that my boss only...

Re: Flipped the power switch on my psu and spark on mobo
Yes! Thank you for the in depth explanation, just 2 things one of which is probably a typo and unimportant but the mobo was a super p4sce. The only reason I was wondering if maybe it was the mobo is because I read through the badcaps FAQ and it said that supermicro was among the board manufacturers that were involved with it. The other thing is that I did not leave the psu plugged in for 45 minuts I had it off and unplugged from the power chord. I did however let it run for 5 minutes before that 45 minute period...Last edited by Drew; 10-28-2010, 11:34 PM.

Dell Studio XPS 16 Notebook Blue Screen Trouble
I recently just Purchased a Dell Studio XPS 16 Notebook. Within a week or two of use I had my first blue screen. It's been about a month and a half since I purchased it and I have had 3 blue screens. It seems to occur when I close the laptop to go to sleep in the night and it goes into hibernate mode and when I boot it up the next day it says it there was an unexpected shutdown, I look to see what the error was and it was a blue screen each time. I have absolutely no idea what can cause this or if its something to even worry about. All help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Flipped the power switch on my psu and spark on mobo
Sorry about that, when your talking about the prodding your referring to a pc that has been plugged in for more then 10-15 seconds correct?

Re: Flipped the power switch on my psu and spark on mobo
I know I sound like a broken record here but I would just like to get a solid statement that sums up what the presumed cause of the issue is, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you all for the help, its been great. I will have more information about the issue tommorow and hopefully can get a definitive answer for this problem.Last edited by Drew; 10-28-2010, 06:42 PM.

Re: Flipped the power switch on my psu and spark on mobo
This is a bit off the subject but I saw blue screens and thought hey while I'm here I might as well ask. So anyway I recently got a new laptop a month ago, it's a dell studio xps 16. It blue screened within the first week I think, but I know it's blue screened 3 times total since I got it. I don't know what could of caused it, if you have any ideas or need anymore info to determine what could be wrong shoot me a pm (don't want to get this thread off topic) and I'll get back to you.

Re: Flipped the power switch on my psu and spark on mobo
I hooked up the Allied psu to the 24 pin connector on the mobo and hooked up the psu to the 4 pin connector aswell, the green led on the mobo lit up. Seanc and Retiredcaps advised me to wait until I measure the voltage of the Allied psu before I go any further....
