Re: Dell MB replacement into larger MB tray - suggestions?
Under each one its says GNDCLP# so I just assumed it was a grounding clip but I would have thought only one ground would be needed. Then again never seen a single motherboard need grounding.
I might give it a whirl since I am not installing any cards on that side and the CPU sink's weight is on the side that is secured....

Dell MB replacement into larger MB tray - suggestions?
I got a bunch of the recapped SX270 SDT boards and just realized the machines these need to go into are all SMT (mini-tower).
Good news is that all the ports line up correct on tray. But there are four ground clips on each corner and only 2 line up on one side (see pics)
Any suggestions on how to make this work?
I am sure if there is a will there is a way. Otherwise the school these were to go to are not going to reimburse me unless they work for them. Please help....

Re: HP MB Cap choices needed
Your right the letters are right after the degrees.
All of these on the board look good.
The board is from a P4 HP computer. So an older MB indeed.
Thanks to everyone for their guidance, this forum is a pleasure to visit and learn with so many knowledgeable folks willing to lend a hand....

Re: HP MB Cap choices needed
AS reliable as the KZG which has 3 of them bulging
Is KZE better and higher rated then the KZG series? These are 4 of them around the CPU and since they are there I was thinking of just replacing them...

Re: HP MB Cap choices needed
2200 6.3V KZG (13 ESR, 2550 ripple) - 10mm x 20mm
820 25V KZE (22 ESR, 2150 ripple) - 10mm x 25mm
1500 6.3V KZG (26 ESR, 1540 ripple) - 10mm x 20mm
1000 10V Nichton HM - 8mm x 11mm...

Re: HP MB Cap choices needed
Yes, there are 4 of them, so sounds like it might be best then to stick with 820s.
Sorry, TopCat looks like I will need to place an order elsewhere. Anyone have suggestions on a good cap for this 820 are digikey or mouser?...

Re: HP MB Cap choices needed
None of the panasonics look bad. But the HM has poped top so I will replace.
However, I am stuck in figuring out what I can use for the 820uF as this one is unavailable here at badcaps. Can I use one of a higher uF value? The 820 is near the CPU....

HP MB Cap choices needed
I have a bad board, the caps around the CPU are:
2200 6.3V KZG (13 ESR, 2550 ripple)
820 25V KZE (22 ESR, 2150 ripple)
1500 6.3V KZG (26 ESR, 1540 ripple)
Others on the boards are:
1000 10V Nichton HM
1000 6.3V CFJZ
I have no idea what the CFJZ is since Nippon it seems never made a series like this.
Also not sure what I should use for the 820 25V since these are not available here. Are there any substitutes I can use that are available here like maybe going up in uF safely?
Also unsure on the ESR and ripple...

Re: 7900GS card with bad polymer caps?
Thanks.
Unfortunately, I did not realize the card must be registered within 30 days to get the lifetime warranty and XFX is denying warranty on the card.
Luckily on the 8600GT XFX that went bad on me due to bursted caps, I was able to bring it back to life by recapping it. And will be completely recapped of all the cheap FZs once I order the 470uF Rubycon caps from here....

Re: 7900GS card with bad polymer caps?
Reflow?
What do you mean by the "GPU is inherently defective"?
I see many issues on google with laptop versions of the 7900 series nvidia, but not many related to PCI-E cards....

Re: 7900GS card with bad polymer caps?
According to the chart I am looking at the PSA are radial lead type. These are SMT ones, so did you maybe mean to say "PXA" series....

Re: 7900GS card with bad polymer caps?
Looks like other boards similar to mine use the Sanyo for the 1200 and 330.
I have identified the purple 1200 ones as:
Sanyo OS-CON SVP series 4SVP1200M (ESR 12, ripple 5440)
I would think it would be just as unlikely for a GPU or memory to fail. I have read that polymer caps can fail with some brands and series more likely then others especially in high heat situations that are likely when near a GPU.
Wow, that's bizarre, just went to Chemi-con website and their headquarters is like the next town...Last edited by jfcarbel; 12-23-2010, 02:15 AM.

7900GS card with bad polymer caps?
I have a non-functioning XFX 7900GS graphics card. All the caps on it are true polymer (I believe either Chemicon on Sanyo).
But when the card failed it begin to display an odd picture with pink dots and green lines, which then progressed to something unreadable, and then no video whatsoever.
Could this be bad caps? Do polymers of quality brands like Chemicon and Sanyo go bad?
These are all SMT so not sure how easy it would be for me to use a regular solder station to redo these since I hear the way to do this is normally another method using solder paste...Last edited by jfcarbel; 12-23-2010, 01:36 AM.

Re: 8600GT graphics - cap suggestion needed
Ok, I checked and the size is 8mm, so I assume the MBZ sold here should be fine since the ripple is only off by 10.
I did notice one other cap on the board, it has similar look of a solid polymer cap. but is in disguise since it has the "K" venting marks on the top. However, it does not have any markings that identify it as FZ as the others do. It is just marked as:
69
470
16A
So not sure what this cap is. It is 8mm like the other 470uF FZ's but looks different in that it is...

Re: 8600GT graphics - cap suggestion needed
Thanks, I now realize I must have grabbed the MCZ spec from capking site.
Diameter is not an issue since these are located separate from other caps. But height is an issue since one is located under the GPU heatsink. But the MBZ are small enough.
However, I understand if the FZ is 10mm then the ratings are:
10x12.5mm - ESR= 0.022 / Ripple = 1800
I will need to get out some caps and compare and get back to this forum about the size of this FZ 470uF.
Would the Polymer...Last edited by jfcarbel; 12-21-2010, 02:07 AM.

Isn't ESR always supposed to be equal or lower? BTW, I have 3 of these to replace on the card....

8600GT graphics - cap suggestion needed
I replaced the bad and bursted Sacon FZ 1000 and 1500 caps using some Rubycon MCZ/MBZ that I had and the board is back to life.
But I want to replace the 470uF 16V as well since these will go soon if not already going.
470uF 16v are Sacon FZ.
- 8x12mm - ESR= 0.036 / Ripple = 1150
Options:
Rubycon MCZ 16V, 470uF, 0.021 ESR, 1340 ripple
But I checked the Rubycon stock here and I do not see the 470uf on the listing page for Rubycon. However, I did have a [URL="https://www.badcaps.net/store/product_info.php?cPath=3&products_id=51"]link...Last edited by jfcarbel; 12-20-2010, 11:28 PM.

Re: Blinking power light fix for DVP642 DVD Player
C316 replaced with a Low ESR 1000uF 16V Rubicon Cap that I got from here. Unit now works great, thanks everyone.
Took me only 30 minutes total for the desolder and resolder of caps. Next project is a dead HP motherboard which will be a bigger challenge since its more caps.
