Re: Sharp TV - Solid Red Light
I would kind of agree with you at this point but I want to test my backlight.
How can I jump start the power board to test the backlight?
Thanks.
This is the top-down view of the board (my camera is dead):...

Knockoff/Counterfeit parts
Has anyone seen these?
So far, I've had like 3 counterfeit parts.
One was a TCON board in a guy's TV. I did everything to eliminate the short as far as to drilling out part of the board, and there was some sort of short inbetween the two sides of the board.
Now I'm sitting on two power supplies that seem to make voltage out of thin air.
Not sure what to do. I prefer not to get these bullshit counterfeit Chinese parts as it causes me a ton of trouble between my repairs and sellers.
I have a hunch somewhere they are being swapped in...Last edited by Rainy; 10-10-2018, 04:10 AM.

Re: Sharp TV - Solid Red Light
What is the DMM? I just used the tv ground as ground, like a screw hole. Works great.
This is why I was wondering if there is a firmware somewhere I can re-flash the tv with....

Re: Sharp TV - Solid Red Light
ok, just tired..
The 18V reads 21.5v
the 12v reads 12v
the STB reads 85mv
the SW and other hot leads are about 0.1mv
The grounds are all 0
But this set is so new I don't think the board has a diagram. I tried fixing the last two boards thinking something is wrong with the STB, but I get a red light on. I also spliced the STB to maybe feed 5v dc into it.

Sharp TV - Solid Red Light
So, I've been through almost three power supplies on this TV now
The first was all sorts of bad....
The second I got a solid red light, thought it was the standby.... That came from ebay without being in a anti-static bag.
I got another one, and it does the same exact thing from the same seller.

The TV in question above.
Any help is appreciated, do you guys think a firmware flash would help? I really can't afford to...

Re: Standard Vizio Power Supply DPS-167DP
The one marked in red on the photo. Sorry man, it was kind of hard to see. it's working anyway
I recorded the repair on camera of the diode addition:

Re: Standard Vizio Power Supply DPS-167DP
Update: I just soldered on a new diode from a VCR that was "40" instead of "30" and works great.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I realized the TV was tripping after I measured power from the mains cap on both sides in voltage mode and hitting the power button. The Meter would go out of range about 10 times, then TV would be in standby mode.

Re: Standard Vizio Power Supply DPS-167DP
I went and measured that same chip again. I get ~50v now on all of the pins except the drain to the mains filter cap (I guess those are on the front visible side)
I also get ~50v measuring to the 5VSB from the mains filter caps.
This is a new voltmeter, it read 5v last time I checked.
Can anyone else chime in with some advice?
I know that diode is bad, but it has no power to it at all....Last edited by Rainy; 09-16-2018, 01:05 PM.

Funny, because that breaker doesn't trip in our place at all....

Re: Standard Vizio Power Supply DPS-167DP
That just blew my mind.
Sorry, I really don't know what the main filter cap looks like.
I'm not sure what pin is the S pin. And, I'm not sure what resistor...

I used the top-right screw ground. Bottom-right in the photo....

Standard Vizio Power Supply DPS-167DP
Hello. I just want some thoughts on a power supply I'm repairing.
I searched the forum and didn't find much on this power supply.
The IC failed. It looked like it exploded kind of. I got 5 off eBay and replaced it (with that terrible rosin solder..)
The IC gets like 9 volts on every pin except for the two separate drain pins that fluctuate between like 10 and 12 volts every half second or so.
The secondary side has no standby voltage (5vSB) and the diode is short and I haven't replaced it yet. Any thoughts on what else I should test? I...Last edited by Rainy; 09-14-2018, 06:52 AM.

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hello. I mostly just find stuff and repair it. I'm looking for work.
Mostly do I.T. Support, I really hope I can fix this power board for a TV I have because I miss watching tv lol.
I enjoy listening to M.C. Chris and programming android apps.
