• Re: Fujitsu Siemens P19-2 Rev.1 backlight problem

Just wanna report back: I got myself one of those blue CCFL testers from ebay.
I fitted the proper adapter to connect the cable of the lamp but all 4 lamps in the monitor not light up.
The tester seems to operate normally and also there is some arcing if you move the tip away from the cable.
Unfortunately I do not have any known good lamps around to test the tester itself. But on the other hand it is very unlikely that all 4 lamps in the monitor wen totally bad all at the same time?!

EDIT: Poor contact...

• Fujitsu Siemens P19-2 Rev.1 backlight problem

Hello dear forum members,
i already fixed a few of these monitors: normally a blown cap on secondary side that sometimes also takes a zener diode down. No big deal. • Delta ATX PSU refuse to start

The PSU (Delta DPS-200PB-189 A rev 01) from an HP Microserver doesn't wanna start up. 5VSB is present. Visual inspection shows no damaged components. All caps tasted well (capacitance and ESR). How to do firther troubleshooting?

• Re: Asrock E350M1

I tried different psu and ram. No luck. Caps look ok . The board is just three years old. Now it not start at all. Maybe try hairdryer ? Like i said once its up then it runs well

• Re: Asrock E350M1

Well I not see any chance how to do that as I am not able to enter the BIOS / UEFI and start the update
Removed the Battery already but nothing changed.

• Asrock E350M1

Hello guys I have a very strange problem with my Asrock E350M1 that serves in my little homeserver. On every reboot the system hangs: after it shut down and next you would expect the BIOS Post showing up nothign happens. The Fans run at full speed, black screen, no beep. After disconnecting the power cord and reconnecting it then it takes further attempts and sometimes I have to go through this process 20 times to get it to boot. Also when I try to enter the BIOS the post screen freezes. But if I not touch it during POST and let the server boot it runs rock stable. What is wrong here? :whistl...

• Re: Cisco AP won't come on randomly

I removed some shieldings and there are lots of BGA IC's. So next I will try to heat these up as I could not find which one cause the problems. But i highly suspect them all because the get very hot during normal operation and have thermal pads which they touch the housing.
Before I ruin it completely: which nozzle, airflow and temps are proper for this kind of job? NoClean flux is available....

• Re: Cisco AP won't come on randomly

Well, unfortunately I don't habe a reflow oven, only a hotair station and heatgun. Maybe I give it a try with the heatgun. What temp / time is best practice for preheating / reflowing a board? Normal oven in kitchen won't get hot enough i guess.

• Re: Cisco AP won't come on randomly

Just finished replacing those 4 but nothing changed :-(
There are 2 other caps (100V / 10uF) that are obviously just for smoothing the PoE. They tested OK but I replaced them as well. Still no luck

• Re: Cisco AP won't come on randomly

Hehe sorry for confusing you. I already put a bit of flux there since i planned to remove them but then , after thinking over, I might experience some cold solder joints.
BTW: let it totally cool down now and dead again (only three solid leds). What would you suggest?

• Cisco AP won't come on randomly

I have a Cisco AP1252 that randomly won't come on and all three led's are solid red. I noticed that when I am heating up (hairdryer) the area where the 4 caps are located the AP has a much better success rate to start up (and working normally afterwards).
Even if I let it cool down for like half an hour it will still start sometimes.
The caps tested well (in circuit) with ESR meter - they are in parallel tho. As well no bulging or leaking.
So I am really not sure how to find the fault here. Bad solder joint? Caps?...

• Re: Jentec AF1205-E

Thanks for your quick reply. Well as I wrote before I already did a complete recap (except pimary cap) so I gonna skip measuring on primary side.
ZD1 and ZD2 are not shorted either. The resistors on secondary measure fine as well.

Well I have tested all the diodes and none of them is shorted or open in both directions....

As I plan to keep this switch I did a full recap (excluding the main cap) on this PSU and re-soldered the whole board but still no luck, same symptoms. Fuse wasn't / isn't blown.

This is a 5V / 2A PSU from a D-Link Switch. The outpult voltage is oscillating and causes only the switch power led to blink. The switch itself is fine since I tested with another PSU.
A picture of the PSU can be found here

• Re: Power supply blowing fuses in Zebra 2746e thermal printer.

I also got a dead printer with this PSU on my desk. After checking the suspicious components I could not find any fault. So resoldering the whole PSU did the job.
But I am thinking of replacing both primary caps in advance. This seems to be arare case where promary caps fail sooner than any other caps on this board. At least the blown components lead me to this conclusion, or?

• D-Link Power Supply "AF0605-E"

Just wanna share this with you guys: In past years I have had a few of these wall warts (5V / 1.2A) that come with many D-Link products on my desk. The faulty part was ALWAYS the output filter cap which is a TEAPO SY series 10V / 680uF (8x15mm).
I recommend Panasonic FR, FM or FC as replacement.
The case does not have any screws, hooks or clips. Just use a vice and some cloth. Apply pressure where the upper and lower part are glued together and the housing will pop open easily.

• Anybody seen Panasonic caps failing?

I just wondering if anybody of you guys here seen LowESR Panasonic caps (FR, FM, FC Series) failing? I'm using these many many years now when I'm doing repairs but never got one device back with one of the replaced caps failing.
Second question I am really curious about: are there any device that are natively populated with these caps mentioned above? I personally have never seen any of them in consumer electronics, PC components or whatever - not even in medical devices (AGFA prefers the use of Oscon there)!...

• Re: Cisco switch PSU dead

I could trace this track on the PCB and the components along it up to the aux winding of the transformer - also without any component faulty. While measuring I was wondering about the readings that sometimes jumped like crazy. first i thought it was just bad contactof the probes but then i decided to resolder the whole board and that finally did it!
Before I inspected the solder joints even with magnifying glass but there was nothing suspicious!
Anyways I'm glad it's working now

• Re: Cisco switch PSU dead

Sorry no chance to trace it further on this board. But from what I can see the circuit is totally different than in the application note. Many components glued to the board and also two addon board plus many jumper wires - it's a mess.
