Wow. Took the monitor apart, looked at the power supply board. Didn't notice any damaged, swollen capacitors, or any brown looking glue. I could spend evenings chasing this down that I'd rather spend doing other stuff. And damn that glue is hard, what a pain it is to remove all that crap from the component leads and all. A 10 year old monitor doesn't owe me too much. I'm going to keep my eye out for a sale on a new one and move on.
