  • Re: Samsung R540-JA08 Random Shutdown/Start Up

Well my Samsung r540-ja08us has died on me for good

During Christmas of 2013 I came downstairs to where the computer was setup and I had it charging the battery from the night before and I turned the computer on to use it and it started smoking and I had to put the computer out with a Carbon Dioxide fire extinguisher

I have since scrapped this computer and finally got around to buying a new laptop so this thread needs to be closed.

The Thermal Compound was redone yesterday as I used some arctic silver 5 thermal compound to see if that would fix it but it didn't the factory compound was not dried out. and I pulled the hard drive out to pull a piece of data off my drive and both my Windows Installations were working just fine.

But I'm just going to order some new DDR3 ram as I need some anyway for a neighbors computer that i'm fixing needs an upgrade so I'm just going to order some extra just to play to try plus I run out of DDR3 all the time when I...

Yes I have checked the temps with a laser thermometer that and nothing seemed out of the normal ranges for the intel Core i3.

I actually got the machine to boot somewhat today before it started acting up again.

I was only able to get into the bios for about 15 seconds before it started doing the random shutdowns/start ups again..

I used a laser thermometer because I cannot get the machine running long enough to access the bios or the Operating Systems that are currently installed. I'm currently...

  • Samsung R540-JA08 Random Shutdown/Start Up

I have a samsung r540-ja08us laptop PC that I bought in 2010 and it's now starting to act up by doing random shutdowns and power ups and I've only replaced the DVD burner just recently because the factory one quit working and started not to Read/Burn anymore so I bought a new one for this machine installed it and that problem has been fixed.

This machine had 3gb of DDR3 when it was new all samsung oem ram and the one 1gb stick started to fail tests when I would run Memtest 86+ on a CD or even a flash drive.

so I'm just using the 2gb stick on ddr3 that is still working...

  • Re: Linksys WRT54G version 1 Wireless Router Trouble

I decided not to scrap my linksys wrt54g I just got it working this morning I had to do the factory reset on it again and I'm going to leave the linksys software on there for testing then I'm going to run dd-wrt on it after I test the router out to make sure it doesn't lock up again..

I know they are not the greatest routers in the world but speaking of goodwill that's where I got it from.

And I just did a factory reset on it and it made no difference.

So yeah I'm going shopping for a new router I'm going to buy a Netgear wndr3700 for my grandparents.

but I agree with you about the WRT54G being a junk router

Funny thing was is I just considering running dd-wrt on this thing.

I might just keep this router running the linksys code just for ease of setting this router up again.

I'm also going to change the router ip address on this thing to it will no longer be the default ip address.

I'll see about doing a factory restore on it tomorrow when I've got time but thank you so much for the information I've got the router in question on my work table so when I get time tomorrow I can do it at home and be able to test it out.

  • Linksys WRT54G version 1 Wireless Router Trouble

I'm over at a family members house troubleshooting there network for them and I cannot even login to the router webpage to see what failed but it's still broadcasting it's SSID no problem but when I type in the correct WPA key for the network it rejects it no matter what.

But when I connect via a Ethernet Cable to my laptop, there desktop PC or my Grandma's Laptop it will just say in Windows Xp (desktop) Limited or no Connectivity and in Windows 7 on her laptop it say No Internet Access and this is for the wired connection.

If I attempt to connect to wireless on this...
