Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
For ~ $12, I'm going to pretend I'm ahead of the game and that I saved myself ~ $238 dollars over the cost of a new monitor. Also, I couldn't wait... I am typing these words while looking at my non-factory refurbished non-flickering monitor. I love capacitors. They are amazing things.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
Digi-Key, Mouser, and Newark were all out of stock with lead times running out through mid-December for all or part of a 'matched set' of either Panasonic, Rubycon, Nichicon, or United Chemi-Con capacitors.
I ended up settling on the following order, with my final decision based upon many hours of experience spent last Saturday and Sunday with staring at vendor websites and trying to decipher capacitor specifications and agonizing about whether or not I was looking at the right items. Then I said something that rhymes with "bucket"...

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
Thanks. I got distracted yesterday from this mission, so hadn't yet placed the order. However, based on this topic and checking availability from several sources named within the topic, I was intending to order from digikey last night before I wandered off to chase dust motes or something.
About that big cap: I have no reason to think the PS is not working correctly, so the recommendation would be to unplug and let it sit for how long ("rather quickly) before opening it up again? Should I hold the power button for a while after unplugging...Last edited by Aesir Rising; 10-02-2010, 02:44 PM.

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
Oh, I'd already called around my town and there aren't any suppliers in my immediate area. Before finding this forum, I was resigned to ordering online anyway. Still, it was great to see the same symptoms described in this thread. Gave me a bit of confidence that I was on the right track.
Like others in the topic, I really don't want to touch the 150uF/450v big one though. Afraid of getting shocked. I don't have the gear to discharge it. Just want to get another year or so out of this monitor, budget being tighter than I'm otherwise used...

Re: Samsung SyncMaster 226BW
Registered to say thanks for this topic.
The information within confirmed for me that I was on the right track for repairing this monitor that decided to start to flicker a couple of days ago for a few minutes after coming out of low-power sleep mode.
Between yesterday and today I learned what a capacitor is, and have taken mine out... but couldn't find replacements locally so put them back in. Still works. I'll call that a trial run. Trying to find an online supplier now, and the part #s in the topic are helping towards that...
