  • Acer AL2216W was dead-- NOT ANYMORE!!!

    Caps in today.
    A little solder, a little checking, a little second checking for luck, a little re-installation of parts--plug it in....

    VOILA!!
    IT'S ALIVE!!!!!

    Total outlay, $5 for caps ( I got an extra of all seven I needed. I've done something like this before, I KNOW how it sometimes goes...) $7 for shipping. (got here in < three days)
    $12
    Bragging rights with friends??
    PRICELESS!

    Thanks for the replies guys. I decided to give my business to BADCAPS.The least I could do! I got Rubycons (sp?)
    The monitor was DARK. but the power light on the right corner flashed from green to yellow/brown to green etc.
    I got all the caps except the big 450V one. Might as well be safe.

    Well, the monitor gave up the ghost last night.

    I found BADCAP searching the 'net to find a solution.
    I FINALLY got the darn thing open, and sure enough, there was a capacitor that had swelled, and is presumably bad.
    So the plan is:
    -Buy the appropriate caps (there are eight. Do I need to replace the big 120uF 450V one?
    -Remove the old, replace with the new ones
    -Rebuild the monitor
    -Save 200 dollars!

    Sound about right?
    I will check out DigiKey etc and put in an order.
    I am a ham radio operator so I have some...
