Medion Erazer Defender E15 | Need A Life Line!
Hi Folks,
Long story short, this Medion Erazer Defender E15 stopped working after a lightning storm. The client took it to the local service tech, who failed to fix it and then proceeded to send it to another 2 service techs (mates) to attempt the repair. After all those pairs of hands, the laptop finally came to me... It's a HIROSHIMA!
They removed the KBC chip and didn't return it, did some weird botch job with the soldering etc.
Here's my shout-out to the ether and hope some shining knight in gold armor will hear my plea. I believe I can repair...

Re: dell xps 13 9300 fdq30 la-h811p rev:1.0 bios
Unfortunately, it was a no fix, way too much time was spent re-flashing all the bios chips, and still the same error. You may have better luck, and I hope you do! Post back if you get it working I would been keen to find out....

Re: dell xps 13 9300 fdq30 la-h811p rev:1.0 bios
Same issue. Also, I tried copying the bios from the Winbond chip from the known good (right) side USB C port over to the port where the TPS65987D chip has been replaced, and again exactly the same issue... Just boot looping.
Running the LCD diagnostic test works fine, but still cannot access the bios or boot options....

Re: dell xps 13 9300 fdq30 la-h811p rev:1.0 bios
Cheers for sharing, I've reflashed the BIOS but the same issue persists. Shows the Dell Logo and reboots. Testing the USB C port with an AMP meter shows a dead port ie no power. The other USB C port is fine. Still can't access the BIOS by pressing F2 or the boot options via F12. No shorts present on the board....

Re: dell xps 13 9300 fdq30 la-h811p rev:1.0 bios
theres 4 winbond marked red and 1 PCH SPI Flash ROM 32M marked yellow. Do I have to desolder all 4, read them and save and upload dumps?
Here's a copy of the boardview and schematic if anyone needs them https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=106344Re: dell xps 13 9300 fdq30 la-h811p ... boardview and...Last edited by SMDFlea; 05-11-2022, 04:16 PM.

Re: Need replacement advice for surface mount electrolytic capacitor
I get that the manufacturer used the SMD type instead of through-hole to save on space, but considering I can't find the SMD versions locally and waiting months on end to get them delivered from overseas, I suspected that the through-hole equivalent should just work. I just wanted to get a second opinion if this will work and whether it will stand the test of time ie more than 6-12 months.

Need replacement advice for surface mount electrolytic capacitor
Hi all,
I have a faulty monitor, the surface mount electrolytic capacitor 33uF 100V needs to be replaced, now I can't seem to source them locally, so my question is can I replace it with a through-hole electrolytic capacitor of the same value? Or has someone got a better suggestion?
Cheerio...

Re: 820-2915-A Wont power on with battery connected
Yes R7051 was replaced, in fact, it was one of the first things I noticed that needed replacing. I tested the replacement on the board and out and it was in spec, so that is what took me on a wild goose ride as I assumed it was fine! I can't believe it was the trace that was the issue all along (if we're not counting the SMC, ISL, diodes etc)!!! You know what they say, two brains are better than one, in this case, only one was needed and it was yours, so hats off to you!!! I was just the surrogate surgeon!
As for the...

Re: 820-2915-A Wont power on with battery connected
If anyone comes across this mega-thread, this is what was replaced in order for it to turn on with the battery connected.
U4900 (SMC) U7000 (ISL6259HRTZ), R7051, U5421, U5420, Q7055, D6990!
Just want to openly say I doubt I would have noticed that the resistance from R7051, pin #2 to R7050 (pins 2&4) we're 8.22MΩ instead of close to 0! After spending so much time on this I was just going in circles! All the praise goes to mon2, without your input and help and most importantly patience this would...Last edited by beogeek; 03-09-2022, 04:30 PM.
