• Re: Samsung LE26A456C2D issues.

tom66,

I'm not sure who the panel is made by. There are no obvious logos to say the panel is made by Samsung. The TV was built in Hungary if that helps. There is a number on the circuit board that the panel is bonded to: 260AP01S2L V3.3

I don't know if that means anything to you.

I took the screen apart to have a look at the tabs, there are two of them bonded to the glass. After poking around while the screen was turned on, I'm still not getting anything new

Hi newtothis,

Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. I've been away.

On the panel side of the T-con there is only one ribbon cable going to the panel, if I remove this it the panel goes blank.

I actually purchased a new mainboard from ebay. I stuck a really low offer on it and the guy accepted! Turns out that this board is probably faulty too. It wouldn't even play the splash sound when I switched the TV on. What I can confirm is, that changing the mainboard didn't make a bit of difference to the picture,...

hi vinceroger69

Thanks for confirming that Wasn't sure if I was just being a bit thick.

So yes - I disconnected the T-Con from the mainboard side, not the panel side since that is a bit fiddly and is essentially the same thing anyway. The screen went totally black with just the backlight working.

hi newtothis,

I disconnected what I believe to be the T-Con from the main board (the one with the I/O ports). The screen goes completely black, no white, no line along the bottom, but I'm pretty sure that's because the signal has been totally broken to the panel.

I looked this board up on ebay where it is reffered to as a "display driver"...

Hi johnboy1313. Is it possible for tab bonds to cause a completely blank screen?

Here are some pictures of the screen running. They aren't great my camera can't get decent light with the rubbish weather at the moment and if I used the flash it masks the problem with the screen, but I think you get the idea.

The screen has the white ghosting after a couple of minutes turned on. It's much more noticeable in person than in the photo. Its is mostly on the left side of the screen, there is some that protrudes into the right half of the screen. The line I was talking about, at the bottom of the screen seems to only come...

• Samsung LE26A456C2D issues.

Hi chaps,

My uncle has handed me this little TV for a pet project. The failure happened (as my uncle described it) as a white square in the top right corner which then spread to the rest of the screen, then the screen died.

When you turn the screen on now, no matter which source you select, the screen displays a very thin multicoloured static line along the bottom of the screen and there is some vertical "ghosting" on the left hand side on the screen. It does still play its "splash" sound.

I've popped the back off to have a quick...

• Re: My Viewsonic VX924 monitor died!

WOO SUCCESS!

It was the MBR10100CT schottky that was defective. Now I'm back basking in LCD goodness!

Thank you everyone who helped me identify what was wrong with my PSU, I really appreciate it. This experience has taught me a lot and I'm getting a bit of a taste for it, so maybe you might see me around the forum a bit more often.

Thanks again guys....

Right, I'll pick up a MBR20100 they are fairly cheap and I can get one from within the UK pretty easy. Actually, now you mention heat, there does seem to be quite a lot of discolouring in the area of the schottky and its heatsink.

Hopefully, this is the last thing I have to swap!

I rechecked. There's no change on the multimeter.

Ok, to save hassle I removed the diode from the board.

This time the diode test looks like this

Black pin 1, red pin 2 = 1 (out of range)
Red pin 1, Black pin 2 = 190 stable
Black pin 3, red pin 2 = 000 stable
Red pin 3, black pin 2 = 000 stable

Resistance looks like this:

Pins 1+2 = 1 (out of range)
Pins 1+3 = 1 (out of range)
Pins 2+3 = 00.5

Does that make any sense?

I decided to recheck everything. Starting from the 12vdc out I checked the voltage and noticed something strange. If I check the voltage using the 12v and ground pins I get no reading whatsoever. If I do the same I but I use the grounding around the mains socket or around a screw hole, I get the fluctuating tiny voltage of 0.02 - 0.08 that I mentioned in post #22. What does this mean?

Ok, I dug out the manual to my dmm. This is how it reads:

"DIODE MEASUREMENT

1. Red lead to "V (OHM symbol) mA". Black lead to "COM". (Check)
2. RANGE switch to (diode symbol) position. (Check)
3. Connect the red test lead to the anode of the diode to be measured and the black test lead to the cathode.
4. The forward voltage drop in mV will be displayed. If the diode is reversed, figure "1" will be shown."

To be honest I am utterly confused...

Unfortunately, I don't have an analogue multimeter.

Hmmmmm. I'm a bit stuck. What do you wizards think?

Correct, does that mean I am doing it wrong? Because no matter what I do, the meter just drops to 000....

Ok, I tested the MBR10100CT. No matter which way I put the probes on which ever pins, the reading starts at around "230" and very quickly drop to "000". Basically, almost exactly the same as touching the probes together. Yep, sounds like I'm doing it wrong, but I swear I'm not

Hmmmm, I've been reading newbie1's thread. Since I'm targeting the SMPS controller on my board. I checked the chip using the pins that newbie1 tested. Pins 1+3 bounced around 16.5-18.6v and pins 1+7 was similar in behaviour but bouncing between 13.5-15.5v.

Since PlainBill stated that the SMPS won't start until pin 7 reaches around 16v, I'm wondering if it actually is the SMPS controller that's dead.

I'll be back asap with the schottky.
