  • Re: Using different type of cap

Result. Up & running again perfectly. I know I'm a tightass but I did not want to bin a big plasma TV if I didn't have to. Unfortunately the 2 caps needed were only available in packs of 10 which cost me the extortionate price of £2.40 with free postage. Cheaper than a new TV which most people would rush out and buy. I was amazed that there are no local TV repair shops like there used to be years ago, must be a sign of the times in this "want it now" society.

Thanks all you experts for sharing the knowledge on this forum...

Does the voltage matter? I know it's best to increase it slightly for Ali can caps but does it matter for film caps?

  • Using different type of cap

Novice trying to repair a Samsung plasma TV with the clicking non-start problem. I've replaced the visible blown/domed caps on the power board but the problem remains. I think I have identified the problem cap/s as I can start the tv after heating these 2 caps with hairdryer for 15 seconds, starts up and works perfect for the whole day no problem. I don't know which is the culprit so intend to replace both. I have sourced the aluminium cap 5v 22uf no problem but I cannot find an obvious replacement for the small brown one. The only markings are 1J with 104J underneath which I believe is 0.1uf...

  • Samsung PS42Q96HD clicking issue

Greetings from the UK, complete novice here. Just joined up to research the common clicking power-on problem with Samsung plasmas. I have identified 2 bulged caps on the power board which have been ordered. No other caps appear bulged, leaning or discharged, and there is no discolouration on the PCB indicating heat. I just wondered if any of you wonderfully experienced guru's know of any other issues I should look for with this model, board No DYP 42W2 PLUS, BN44 00194A.
    Thanks

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi all.
Not new to soldering irons but this is my first time at TV repair. Stumbled across this forum researching capacitor issues, you guys are amazing. I ordered the bits I think I need and have spent the waiting time reading everything I can on here.
BTW, I'm in UK and DIY tv repairs don't seem to be so popular here. But I'm a tight arse and reluctant to replace a 42" plasma for the sake of a couple of bad caps.
Thanks for all the info available.
