  • Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

Regarding the firmware - very likely this will be the case (I was keen to get the television working quickly and didn't pursue investigating the re-application via USB as you have stated. As I had purchased a good second hand board - this was the quickest check....
For anyone reading this - here's the final say from Sony (received today!)

  • Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

mmartell, I replaced the LED strip that had the failed three LED chips on (they were all on same board) - straight swap. As explained previously, this didn't resolve the original fault, but it did change the symptoms - no picture (at all) but SMART light on t.v. was flashing alternate white - green. So I was hopeful then that I was on the right track. The only reference to green lights (that I could find) seemed to be software based. I suspected a problem then with the main control/logic board (the A/V panel) and as I had sourced one...

    PM sent....

Unless Sony show a more supportive role in helping customers who are out of warranty, the ONLY source of these parts will be from screen damaged sets, out of warranty (so broken for spares).
I'm frustrated, but, if I was a trained/experienced t.v. repair technician that had purchased this model and found themselves in the same position, I would be incensed....Do these circumstances arise from time to time or is this unique?

  • Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

    SUCCESS!!!
Parts arrived afternoon 23rd, installed them yesterday (24th) - what I received was full aluminium panel (yep - all 1.3m X 0.5m) with LED panels and their connection ribbons (to the LD Driver board). I used a full panel (72 LED's on board) to replace the faulty board on mine - removed and replaced the thin (felt?) strip that is located full width above the three LED boards (light isolator or what?) ensuring that the thin heat transfer strip behind the panels was firmly against each of the (216 LED's) and the aluminium...

Hi mmartell, Similar devices in other manufacturers products is of some good news - coincidently, do Samsung provide a "spare part" service for those LED's.
The main question here (as alluded to in my last post) is on availability of these parts - Even as a DIY'r (with more experience in PC and automotive repairs/maintenance) I find my situation a bit unnerving - too much control/restrictive practices.
Why do these global companies NOT support the very people who made them global - You and I?? - It would make them...

  • Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

Still waiting for LEDs. I would like views on the circumstances bringing me to this forum (although pleased I did!!) - Sony have a product support policy on their webpages as follows :-
"When your product is out of warranty, acquiring spare parts and fixing your product becomes your decision. Even if your product is out of warranty, don’t hesitate to contact our approved partner (EET Europarts) or our Authorized Service Centers to acquire the part(s) you wish to replace yourself."
    Well guess what, they don't,...

  • Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

I thank everyone with their contributions and advice.
    To respond to each :-
I have considered re-assembly and a claim under Consumer protection law - please read on - I hopefully have solution.
Putting together an alternative led source has also been considered, however, the optical setup on this t.v. is unusual (well - to me anyway) - the leds are designed to project their luminance into a thin transparent channel - effectively a thin 'box' with a 'gap' to allow the led light to enter and do its job - the remaining...

  • Re: Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

Hi RJ/Dick Barton, Yep, you and I have found traces of the elusive chip, but no actual chip. RJ - I am still corresponding with Sony on forums, but they have offered only a "chargeable replacement" - I queried this - they will supply a "new for old" t.v. for only £1200 (yes seriously - they want what amounts to a large deposit for a newer/better t.v) to replace my current one, that (now) has question marks over its reliability - rather than supporting me with either new components (at my expense) to repair...

  • Sony KD-55X9005C - Unknown Backlight LEDs

Hi folks, Try again (last post was hi-jacked - my fault, insufficient detail in header)...
Long story short, need either 3 X full LED strips or individual LEDs to repair this T.V.
    Has anyone seen them before....
Does anyone have a supply of them that would share (for payment obviously)....
Can anyone point me in direction of manufacturer - Sony approval repair centre tells me they are NOT exclusive to Sony....
Seems that I would be easier searching for Holy Grail ;p, possibly lack of info and/or sources of these parts is down to fact T.V is just over 2 years...

  • Re: Can You Identify These LED's

Thanks for all responses - I haven't seen similar chips (so thought pictures might elicit a response - my bad!) - Offending equipment is a Sony 55" screed UHD television - Model KD-55X9005C - the led boards are marked with P/N - NLAW50350 (with further i.d. in form of either "LS2 or LS3 or LS4" following the P/N), there are three in total, each with 72 LED's - so, totalling 216 LED's.
I measured (in situ on the panel) a chip with a gauge (in thou's (inches)) as follows: -
    Width (shoulder to shoulder) - 167ths. (4.24mm)...

  • Can You Identify These LED's

    Hello there,

My second post - I am in awe of 1 - Not only the level of knowledge within this forum but also (and mainly - if I'm honest!!) 2 - The open and free assistance of techies and experienced DIY'rs who share their experience so unreservedly with lower beings such as I....

I am simply trying to obtain new parts (preferably) or 2nd hand for a 2 year old Sony T.V.

Where can I source the pictured LED panels (boards) or individual LED's???

Does anyone have any knowledge of their specs. etc., - they are an unusual design in that they...

    Hi Diif,
Unfortunately the images you have kindly posted are not similar to the one's on the led boards in this telly.
I have (hopefully) attached two piccies of the offending components......

Thanks for that, Although I don't see part listed on eBay - surely this wouldn't be a Sony exclusive part? I have sent off a message via eBay messaging to eBay seller with a full description of part - fingers crossed.

  • Sony KD-55X9005C - Four Red Flashes

    Hi everyone,
My first thread. Bought new just over two years ago with one year un-extended warranty (i.e., out of warranty) the t.v. was powered on, went through the Android loading screen - displaying the animated coloured orbs forming into the word "Android", started to display the picture from Virgin Media box - then immediately shut down - no sound, no picture and the S.M.A.R.T indicator unit at lower edge of screen displayed 4 flashes of red - pause - 4 flashes etc., etc.,. Switched off, powered on - same symptoms. Powered off overnight, disconnected from mains - switch...
