Re: Advice needed regarding a broken charging circuit on a lappy
Thank you so much.
That is a really good video in this case I wouldn't be able to solder directly as the mobo is very congested (there are 3 other SMD components within 2 mm of the varying sides of the diode and a few caps in the area) and I wouldnt trust myself
The laptop is working at the moment, I simply shorted the diode and it appears to function without issue.
I do have another board that needs repairing and I think that video will assist me in the...

Re: laptop video card
MXM is compatible-ish it a real pain to find a card that will work.
I encountered a laptop with bad graphics before so I:

Removed the mobo
Took off all plastics/components I could from the board
Preheated my oven to 195 C
Rolled up 4 aluminium foil balls
Put the balls on a tray
Placed the mobo on the balls
Put the tray/mobo in the oven
After 6 mins I turned the oven off and left it open to cool
I hooked in the power and it worked, one of the USB ports was a little funky (it went to usb 1.1...Last edited by Funkimunk; 09-11-2010, 03:51 PM.

Advice needed regarding a broken charging circuit on a lappy
Hi Guys,
A friend of mine recently asked me to look at her laptop: its battery charging light constantly flickers whenever the laptop was plugged in to DC and I could not boot the machine.
I got obtained a charged battery and was able to use it to boot the laptop, I could still not use the DC in to charge or run the lappy without the battery inserted.

As this is affecting charging...

Re: Nintendo DS (not DSi) not supporting WPA
When the DS was designed WEP was viewed as being acceptable so Nintendo designed the hardware to support only this mode of WiFI Security.
The Ds + Ds Lite have only 4MB of RAM , a 67 MHz ARM9 and 33 MHz ARM7; this is enough capability to process the Simple RC4 Encryption of the WEP standard.
This Spec does not have enough working area or processing power to allow use of WPA (and play games as intended) which is RC4 + TKIP based nor does it allow use of the AES based WPA2.
An oversight on the part...Last edited by Funkimunk; 09-11-2010, 03:14 PM.

Re: linux router distros
Heya,
Have you tried Smoothwall?
It is a Linux based firewall with a good web interface and an easy to follow text-mode setup.
I had one deployed in on a 2.0Ghz Northwood Celeron w/ 256Mb of ram for over 4 years, it always provided excellent performance and was very reliable.
You can get it free from http://www.smoothwall.org/
I hope this helps Re: linux router distros<br /> <br ...ll with a good
