Re: Nvidia GTX 1080 (gainward / palit) inductor
Has anyone got any ideas on what to do next? Was going to try lift 1 leg on each choke to see whether the GPU is OK or not but couldn't get enough heat into it.

Re: Nvidia GTX 1080 (gainward / palit) inductor
1 ohm, the same as touching the probes together.
Is there anyway of checking the vrms without removing them from the board? So far I have checked the following to ground:-
1 to 7
27 to 31
They are all comparable with each other. These are apparently quite high specced vrms.

Nvidia GTX 1080 (gainward / palit) inductor
Hi,
Does anyone know what spec the inductor named "Y" is near the 8 pin connector?
It has failed (although don't know if it was because of something else).
I notice on other 1080 PCBs where it has L19 printed on the PCB they have larger inductors with either LR33 or 1R0 written on them so maybe that is clue enough.
Cheers

Re: Sony KDL-50W829B not picture, everything else works.
It looks like classic a classic TCON issue when I attached the satellite cable, the lines are throughout the whole screen and sometimes I can make out what is on the picture but most of the time I cannot. Moving and re-seating the TCON cables made no difference.
I'll see what happens when the cheap TCON board arrives to feed my curiosity.

Re: Sony KDL-50W829B not picture, everything else works.
I was going to try covering some of the contacts on the TCON cable that does the non working left side but before that I noticed I was getting vertical lines wherever there was text (like channel number, and where it says no signal). I had noticed this earlier on while tinkering about and just thought it was due to lack of shielding while messing about.
I believe I may have inadvertently damaged the TCON. I noticed that one of the tcon cables a couple of contacts had folded over. Upon straightening them out it...

Re: Sony KDL-50w829b
My difference is that I can get half of the display to work perfectly with just the right side connected (as you view the screen). I don't think its worth me pursuing it any further. I might order a cheap TCON board from asia as a last ditch attempt but it is probably futile.
I am curious whether I could get a longer tcon cable to see whether one side of the tcon could drive the opposite side but I guess that might be a design issue anyway and cause even more issues.

Hi Ron,
Here's the service manual. https://www.manualslib.com/download/1258726/Sony-Kdl-32w700b.html (it's for numerous models inc the 50w829b). I'm working on a similar problem at the moment with the same TV.Re: Sony KDL-50w829b<br /> <br /> ...h the same TV.Re: Sony KDL-50w829b

Sony KDL-50W829B not picture, everything else works.
Hi,
I have a similar problem to this thread: https://www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=67291 but I don't want to hijack / muddy his thread.
The TV is 18 months old and just suddenly stopped showing a picture, no OSD just a backlight which changes brightness depending on what it wants to display. The sound works, channel changing works etc. I've done various diagnostics but the attached photos speak the most words.
The first photo is with either both TCON cables attached, both detached or just the left cable attached. Note the banding...

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
My background is zx spectrum and old PCs to current day. Always overclocking / water cooling PCs, and with the help of my dad who is heavily into electronics we've done some motherboard mods for voltage regulation, vmods etc.
At the moment I'm after some advice on faulty TVs.
