Re: Biostar U8668 Pro CPU issues
CPU works and is compatible. (2.4 GHz Pentium 4) I'm pretty sure that the CRM capacitors are bad, because of a crappy power supply that died.

Biostar U8668 Pro CPU issues
(Reposted because the symptoms have changed, the original post was months old, and in the wrong section)
I have an old Biostar U8668 Pro motherboard that unfortunately doesn't seem to want to work properly. None of the caps (pretty much all OST caps) are bulged, which doesn't necessarily mean they're good.
When I power the board on with either SDRAM or DDR RAM, I get an low-pitch beep for a few seconds, then a high pitched siren, indicating CPU failure or overheating, but doesn't shut off like it used to.
What gives me hope that the board somewhat works...

Re: Biostar U8668 Grand power issues
Alright, so here's an update. The board seems to now have some signs of life. The board no longer shuts off after a few seconds, wether I use DDR RAM or SDRAM. I still get the CPU siren thing though.
What's more reassuring that the board somewhat works, is that if I power it on with NO ram, I get a long continuous beep, indicating a memory problem.
So at least the board somewhat works

Re: PcChips (ECS) Goal3+ no power
CLEAR_CMOS jumper is set to "Normal" position.
I don't own a POST card, unfortunately.
LAN chip doesn't even get warm. Nothing does. The board doesn't even turn on.

It looks like just a big thick ground trace...

Measuring the power pins gives me roughly 3 volts

Re: PcChips (ECS) Goal3+ no power
Tried that, absolutely nothing happens. Not even a twitch of with fans, CPU or power supply.
If I short PWR_ON to GRND on the 24 pin power connector, the fans both spin....

PcChips (ECS) Goal3+ no power
I was given a machine by a friend that is used to run a CNC machine, and they said it suddenly just stopped turning on one day. I took the board out of the case and immediately noticed a few things.
First, one of the SATA ports is ripped off (there's soldered pins on the bottom)
Second, there's a capacitor missing. What is it's values?
Third, the board is kind screwed up in the bottom right corner
And last was that the entire board was slightly warped.
When power is applied to the board, quite literally nothing happens....

Re: Biostar U8668 Grand power issues
The caps all look fine physically, and they are OST caps. Yes, it does the beep code with a stick of SDRAM. With DDR RAM, it powers on for a second, then shuts off.

Re: Biostar U8668 Grand power issues
It stays on until I shut it off manually. The CPU ccan't e overheating because the siren starts almost intantly, before the CPU would have time to get hot enough to overheat....

Re: Biostar U8668 Grand power issues
I tried two known-working power supplies. A Bestec ATX 12-Z, and an Enermax EG365P-VE. Both shut off after a few seconds. I found that if I use an SDRAM stick, it stays on, but gives me an erratic series of high and low pitched beeps....Last edited by DankEngihn; 02-10-2019, 07:24 PM.

Biostar U8668 Grand power issues
I have a Socket 478 Biostar motherboard that has some issues.
It powers up for a second or two, and shuts off. To get it to power back on, I have to unplug the power supply from the wall, and plug it back in. This alone isn't too strange of a problem, but there's something else too. I plugged in an AGP graphics card to see if it made an difference, and with the AGP card in, the CPU fan runs slower for the few seconds that it actually stays on.I know it's not the power supply, because it works fine with another board. It's not the RAM, because the computer I...

Anyone have ANY information on this company?
I have a computer made by a brand called IPC Personal Computers. I've only been able to find small bits of information about them. Does anyone know anything about this company?
What I know:
They were a Canadian company
Their headquarters were what is now Joyride 150
Their website can be found on archive.org under ipc.ca
The customer support and tech support numbers just say "This number is not in service"
They apparently went out of business in 2004.
Anyone have any experiences with this company, or know anything...
