Re: PSU shuts down immediately upon power up
Hi there
Replaced the 2 caps labelled in the picture, not sure which one is the "start-up" A or B.
Removed both and checked with ESR meter.
Cap A was Teapo 10uf showing 8.6uf / 2.00 ohms.
Cap B was Teapo 100uf showing 98.2uf / 0.11 ohms.
I assume that Cap A was a problem but replaced both.
For Cap A I used a Chemi-Con KMY 22uf. I used 22uf as this is the usual value for that location on the OCZs I seen so far, will this likely be a problem with a higher value?
The PSU is up and...

PSU shuts down immediately upon power up
Hi there
Can't see this one but apologise if it's already there.
Had several PSUs now which just shut down upon switch on.
The fan does a little twitch and that's all, no output volts.
With previous PSUs I've tried replacing all caps but with no success.
Might I ask for some guidance please.
I presently have 2 OCZ StealthXstreams with this same issue.
Many thanks
Sal

Output inductor replacement on FSP 700 PSU
Hi
Have a FSP 700 with a burned out inductor on the output side.
It handles 5v, 12v & -12v with 3, 8 & 8 turns respectively.
It has shorted 5v & 12v together.
I have a FSP 600 dead on the side with a good inductor however it has a different number of turns.
The 600 is a FSP700-80GLC(NEW)
The 700 is a FSP850-80GLN(REV1)
Turns are as follows
rail - 600 - 700
v - turns - turns
---- ----- -----
5 5 3
12 13 8
-12 13 8
Q. will this 600 inductor...

Re: Caps Values
Hi Pcbonez
I'm curious about your comment regarding inductors connected to caps.
Looking at the average psu output stage, 3.3v, 5v, 5vsb, 12v each output contains an inductor or 2 followed by 1 or 2 caps.
I have always assumed that low esr in these areas is desirable to maximise power transfer to load. Is that really a valid case?
Or to put that into a question . . .
what specifically should one be considering, and how, in the psu output area when recapping?

Re: New Members - please post your introductions here
Hi, I'm Sal, I've been doing the cap thing since 2k4 when I blew up my MX440 thanks to Rivatuner and no case ventilation. I'm a techie type with a desire to know the answer to the ultimate question " W H Y ? ". Have Autism / Asperger's which means comms is usually a little awkward. Been here on and off since 2k5 and found forum helpful in resurrecting mobos. Now I'm confronted with PSUs both atx and lcd/tv and things get a little more complex. Looking forward to picking brains on probs and solutions.
