• Re: Sony KDL-46Z5100 No Video No Sound

Just a quick follow-up for others that have this model. The problem was the main board (BU), found one on ebay that fixed the TV. The test pattern described earlier does appear to indicate a functioning TCON board. Finding the manuals was the hardest chore. I spent way too much time downloading files from the slowest site I've ever encountered (free-service-manual-download.com). And none of the ones I downloaded would open!!!
Here are the files I used:...

OK, I've checked the voltages at the connectors, all appear to be correct. The fuses on the TCON are good. The manuals for this model are not available at elektrotanya. Any other sites I can check?

This link lists models 46S4100. Is this comparable with the Z 5100 model I have?
I seem to be having a senior moment, I can not see a link for downloading the PDF's.
I've tried 3 different browsers. What am I missing?Re: Sony KDL-46Z5100 No Video No Sound

• Sony KDL-46Z5100 No Video No Sound

Here's what I know so far...
On power up I get the green light, relay click, and the SONY Logo on the frame lights up. No sound or video. Back-light is working. I can get the LCD panel to do a few seconds of full screen single color. If the TCON connector is unplugged while the back-light is on, it appears that the TCON does a "Test" of the panel by rotating thru some single color test patterns. After about 10 seconds the set detects the TCON fault (cable unplugged) and shuts down w/ the red light blinking.
Does this show that the TCON is OK?
I've checked the fuses...

• Re: Acer AL2216W Dead

Too late, all buttoned up. I've done some surface mount work a while ago at work where I had the proper equipment. I was worried about the removal of the chip without the de-soldering station. Thanks to "alexanna" for the tip on "Chip Quik", that made the "at home" job go very smoothly. A little solder paste just a touch of the iron and everything flowed very nicely. (Still grinning) This was a freebie that the brother-in-law gave me, $10.00 in parts, good as new (maybe better).

Success !!!!
I replaced the SMPS chip, plugged it in and ta-da the 5V magically appeared at the connector. I couldn't get it plugged into the screen fast enough. Put it all back together connected up to a system, hit the on button, and it works great!!!

This group is awesome

Thanks again for everybody's help!!!

Optical delusion
Just some flux left over after sparky paid me a visit while measuring the 120uF capacitor Replaced the fuse when I changed the capacitors, need to go back and clean the flux off....

Thanks for write-up explaining the startup function of the SMPS chip, that helped a lot.

Looks like #4.
I removed a jumper (blue circle) that's part of the pin 1 circuit (red line), this eliminated the cap, & diode from the circuit. Still only had 9.7VDC on pin 1.

Hello Digikey...
Is there anything else I should add to the order? (Just-in-case)

Thanks everybody for the help....

Thanks for the link,
I've been trying to trace the pin 1 circuit, and have not been able to figure out where the 9.7VDC is coming from. There does not appear to be any AC coming from the transformer to generate the 9.7VDC I'm seeing on pin 1.

The circuit I have been able to trace out so far, resembles the one from FIG. 13 of the SMPS datasheet....

1) Check the FET, Q102? mounted on the heatsink next to the 120uf cap for shorts.
***Checks OK, no short between all pins, both directions

2) Part of the startup circuit consists of D107, above F100 (check for short) and R137-140 (check resistance, I think they are 0.2ohm each)
***D107 OK, all 4 resistors are good.

The diodes check OK, not shorted.
Not sure where to measure the voltages, center pin to center pin = 0V, from chassis ground to center pin, both=0V. Since the SMPS does not appear to running, those readings make sense to me.

I agree about the Vstart, I'll try to follow the circuit tomorrow..

Still reading through the posts, while trying to understand the circuit, I did make some measurements. With black on the trace from the diode bridge negative pin.
1) 9.7V
6) .36V
8) 152V
All the other pins read zero.

Wow!
That is some hard to read lettering, badly faded. But, it looks like it says EA ?532A. I would think it's the same as yours.

2) The fuses do measure around 0.3 ohms.
3) The 8 pin IC is a LM393.

• Re: Acer AL2216W Dead

My mistake, re-measured the cap, it's at 166VDC. There are no voltages present at the connector to the logic board

started a topic Acer AL2216W Dead

Acer AL2216W Dead

I have a dead (no light) Acer AL2216W with a DAC-19M009 power supply. I changed out the capacitors (still dead). I found 4 fuses (F100,F101,F102,F200) that check good. The big 120uF cap has 143VDC across it. What's next?
Thanks for the help....
