Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
Hi there,
I have news.
So the new Winbond Chip is arrived, I changed it and nothing changed. Like always, when I unplug the power cord and reattach it, my BIOS ask me to be recovered with F1 button.
But there is a new. I wondered a thing.
Yesterday, after about a week that the PC was took away, the FIRST power ON goes successfully. No ask to recover bios. And the bios setting was perfectly there, all setting correctly loaded. So I decided to make another...

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
Nothing works.
I changed the bios chip, the Winbond one, and nothing changed.
When I plug off the power cord, and after a while I power on, Bios need to be recovered pressing F1.
Then every time I have to load the OC profile and it works.
Annoying.
But I don't have other idea.
Cmon battery is ok, must be a motherboard problem then, I don't really know what to do.

Anyway
"The BIOS settings are stored in the CMOS chip (which is kept powered up via the battery on the motherboard). That is why the BIOS is reset when you remove the battery and re-attach it. The same program runs, but the settings are defaulted."
I never heard before that the bios setting is stored on the southbridge.
Here they say that is it stored inside cmos memory.

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
Anyway, when I measure the voltage of battery without the power cable, it is stable to 2,95v. (it is not low for a computer battery, they say that it works correctly until 2,4-2,5v).
I measured that power drain from the battery only when i shorted the positive battery with the 8th pin (vcc) of the Winbond Bios Chip.
When I connect the power cable and regularily switch on the power supply I can measure 3,3v. On that 8th pin of the bios chip anyway. So it has...

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
I have a Fluke multimeter, I don't think I have the current measurement.
Anyway I am a bit surprised, I always thought that the little bios chip (in my case the Winbond chip) is a EEPROM that store all the modify I do on a motherboard like voltage profiles, fan profiles, boot sequences and other.
I really didn't know that these datas is stored on the southbridge.
So what do you think can be the problem that every time I disconnect the power cord I lose...

Re: ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
Ok I have understood.
But, if the BIOS datas is stored on the southbridge (SB950), what is the purpose of that chip that is inserted on that socket?
The Winbond chip I said.
Have you any ideas about what to do?
I have tried before to change the batteries with a new 3,1v. , but nothing changed....

ASUS Sabertooth 990FX REV.2 bios chip problems, probably socket shorted?
Hi there,
I'm a technician and a computer/retro computer lover.
I just bought a great Sabertooth motherboard (I really love the colours and the ASUS military scheme) to install a nice FX-8320 from AMD and make a gaming computer with a Geforce GTX 970.
For the first time I had problems with the system, but I solved and then correctly booting, I installed Windows 10 and then I started to overclock the system. I reached a stable configuration of 4,8GHZ with 1,475v.
Then I saved fan configuration, and other parameters, and saved to the overclock profile...

Re: Dell 2408WFPb / 2408WFP - No Power
hey, I cleaned up the power supply board (there was a lot of dust at the end, I have this monitor bought at its exit on market, 2008 september so it's 9 years old and It's normal to find some dust solidificated)...then I tried to give current and the power on button LIGHT ON!
I was happy to see that so I decided to reassembly all and now monitor works perfectly! I'm so happy, this was the first time that I tear down my Dell and I succeded in my mission!
I'm so happy now, vertical lines appears like it do lately...

Re: Dell 2408WFPb / 2408WFP - No Power
Good day, I had same power issue with my Dell, I opened it and this is the results. After a nice clean now the led on the power button on the bezel is ON another time, when before didn't light on.
1) Anyway, in the small caps at the right of IC652 I have voltage, fluctuating, from about 0.300v. to -0.100v.
2) the SMPS chip has this part number 1203P60. There is voltage on Vcc pin and it's fluctuating from 12.5v to 14.5v about. When I click on power button the voltage here is stable 14.5v.
