  • Re: Hard Drive Swap - to clone

I think my new caps should arrive today so I think I will just recap the bad board and forgo the hard drive swap.

I really appreciate all of the input recieved of this project.

If my soldering skills are up to par, I'll recap the other 3 boards. I've already pulled the cover on one and the 2200/6.3's under the hard drive are bulged of course.

Thanks again and I'll keep you posted of the results.

BTW: If you are new to this recapping stuff- Badcaps.net is the best for getting your caps. Most...

Thanks acstech- I may wait until I get the new caps and just leave the hard drives where they were. If the swap knocked out another computer, I'd be up a creek.

    Thanks for the advice!

  • Hard Drive Swap - to clone

I bought 4 identical computers when setting up my network. One computer has bad caps and I'm waiting for the new ones to arrive to attempt to repair it. OS is XP pro.

I need to put the data and functionality of the down computer back in the network asap.

Would it be possible to just swap the hard drive out of one of the identical computers with the one I need?

All of the searching I have done is returning questions about swapping to different setup computers or new HDD to existing computer.

    Thanks in advance!

  • Re: Dell GX620

Just posting a pic of my usff gx620 mobo. Had zero knowledge of caps before stubling across this forum. Was getting erratic usb mouse behavior and other complants. Finally the bsod occured with memory error noted. Replace with known good ram and got same bsod. Read this forum and help topic etc. and decided to pop the cover and found 6 bad 2200/6.3's. Ordered from here and then upon further reading noticed another culpret- 820/6.3 grrrrr.

Anyway I have notice the prior pics showed three different caps that seemed to be bad are now poly's as of 2007....
