I'm trying to create this for a home project but have a few concerns. I simply want to take the 110v from a wall socket and take it down to 5v for a cell phone charger and understand so far:
110v > Stepdown transformer (12v) > Rectifier > Cap for stabilization > 7805 Regulator > +5V...
Only thing is, I've opened up a plug in wall charger and there is a lot more to it than that! Not to mention, the transformer inside these are tiny, and I can't seem to understand what is going on in these wall chargers, it seems a lot more in depth than the instruction...

Re: Acer AL1916W
I replaced the fuse and noticed something in the right direction, now when it powers up the lights flash or flicker for a second then shut off..

Re: Acer AL1916W
When I test one direction I get 0L, and the other way continuously climbs from 2.4k Ohm up. Blown fuse? I will replace it tomorrow morning after checking back later with you all.

Re: Acer AL1916W
You guys are awesome! When I test the F200 fuse should I have it off the board, or will it test properly still soldered on?

Re: Acer AL1916W
IC201 and 202 have this p/n:
P605
BZ6G1S
U101 and 102 have this p/n:
B U3
PC817
As for measuring resistance of the S1 - S2, and S3 - S4.. How do I know which contacts those are? Mine are not labeled, not sure if they normally are.
F200 looks fine, but I am not sure what a bad one looks like, doesnt seem to have any damamge to it though....

Re: Acer AL1916W
The dark green caps are Taicon.
I just finished replacing all the bad caps since I got the new ones today and still no power to the lights. LCD works, image shows up, green power light comes on, just no juice to the lights..

Yeah there are a few that are bloated, should my first step be to replace those?

Re: Acer AL1916W
Hey guys! I just got around to getting some good photos, and noticed only 1 thing with my eyes that may be wrong, it looks like two resistors (?) have solder touching them together (Marked with a red arrow). Let me know if you can see anything I cant.....

Re: Acer AL1916W
I guess I am just jumping to quick conclusions, and should probably test more. The LCD is working, just the lights arent turning on - does that mean the bridge rectifier is working properly?

Re: Acer AL1916W
OK, I will work on that tonight. Any suggestion on which one / where to order a new rectifier from?

Re: Acer AL1916W
Hey guys- I've been searching for this info all day and glad I found this place! I started to test my rectifier and noticed my numbers were all over the place.
Does anyone have the specific range that all the contacts need to have between the others?
