  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

What a great place for the pro and amateur alike.
I am Rinus, a retired professional photographer with a background of formal trade education in the Netherlands and 4 years as AirForce Photographer in an Comm. and Armament Tech Squadron.
Yup I built a first generation FM Multiplex (Stereo) Tuner in 1960. Aluminum base hand cut openings for the tubes and coils and tunable ferrite cores and everything that went with it.
I have always repaired various types of audio and TV systems. I even got my first capacitor...

At least a bit of progress. Someone posted that in the service mode you cannot set the Panel Brightness as it will not save it. Well, it does save any setting for any mode as long as you are in that mode when you start the service menu.
Menu-1-1-4-7 while the TV is on. To save that setting, turn off the TV and restart it.
After you have set it lower you have changed the default brightness for that mode but not the back light.
I believe that back lights are circuit design issues.
    Indeed in ECO mode my...

After having no shutdown with the one ribbon disconnected I reconnected it to the T-Con board. Getting it to seat properly or straight for that matter indicates that the connectors are very poor. The connectors on the screen board is just as bad. I observed the spring side (under the ribbon) and saw 4 of those springs sticking out. I noticed that looking into the connector there were dark spots of the missing back springs. As I tried to push them back into place one just broke off. The missing piece of that spring was not to be found...

    Thanks for replying.
If you read all the comments you will discover that backlights are not the problem. There are two strings and both the voltage and current read the same.
Looking at a picture taken of a white screen you will see no darkening anywhere indicating that there is a shorted or burned out led.
Also,I disconnected all the ribbons that go from T-Con to screen and the TV never turns off the back lights. So the trouble is with the T-Con or LCD panel.
I am now running only three of the four screen...

I may agree that the resistor did nothing for me either but I left that new combo of 2.5 Ohm in placer.
Then as I had it plugged in and used HDMI 1 from my cable supplier PVR and a 12' HDMI cable it stayed on for three hours today and when I changed to HDMI 4 it turned off after just 15 minutes.
I have more to add to all this and that is the issue with the 120 volt from the wall or extension cord.
My Sony 60" will restart or turn off when plugged into an extension cord with a power bar.
    Pretty much...

I have a newer LED backlight tester that checks current also. I will test the backlight current to see if the lights (current) fluctuate after warming up....

  • Re: RCA RLED-4275a backlight flash once

I know this is an old post but others will find this.
The backlights flash on and off due to a fault in the leds in the backlights.
The protection circuit acts immediately to prevent further/any damage.
When this happens the picture and sound generally still work. The picture can often be seen by using a flashlight close to the screen. Check YouTube how this can be done. Good luck.

  • Re: RCA RLED6090 backlight goes affter 10 minutes

Did this finally stop the backlight from going off? My RCA RTU6549 (Canadian model 4K likely from Walmart) also goes off but not at the same times.
Is heating up causing a separate problem or? Also, where the voltages to the mail board are marked 24v on this board but the output is actually 12v on both pins. The TV works fine but then shuts off the screen and the sound stays on. I cannot see a faint image at all.
I replace the resistor(2 in series) in question to 2.3 ohms. In the circuit the value it measures is only...

  • RCA RTU6049 was a Walmart special in Canada

    Regarding the RCA RTU6049.
There was/is a real problem with the FRC board. I have not fixed it yet but it overheats to 130 f. It then shuts down the picture and backlights.
I have already rotated the FRC board so the fins on the heatsink run vertically. Another 10 degree drop but it takes just longer now to turn off.
    The sound is fine.
Is the Hisense IC the problem? All voltages seem normal.
Backlights are good and all functions are working as long as it is on. The screen is not showing an image, just all turns off except the sound.

  • Re: RCA RTU6049 Bad Backlights Horror Story

Shipping is the way they make money. It adds quite bit to a small order so it is often too expensive but replacing a TV costs way more.
Also. I insist on shipping by USPS to Canada. It comes to me without extra charges. Some companies have shipping contracts and only use those.
Always avoid those with brokerage charges. They are drummed up for no good reason and the person selling simply could not care less.
I stopped buying from shopjimmy for that reason. Their flat rate shipping is good to the border and the rest...

  • Re: 55" RCA LED55G55R120Q no backlights

LED backlights are current controlled so backlight testers may read them as "good" or shorted. The detection circuit can trigger an abnormal high or low current even when everything seems normal.
My RCA RTU6049 backlights tested fine but when operating (Minuts only) the voltage to the backlights was all over the place.
I had seen the bouncing voltages before so looking at the backlights with the screen removed showed one LED occasionally flickering. Using my newer LED tester I used the low current setting and that...

  • Re: Westinghouse WD48UW4490 Scrambled Video

The RCA RTU6049 has a similar issue. The TV is good in my cold basement area but with the back on, the image goes black. No backlight and no picture. (tested to make sure)
The heatsink on the FRC board goes to 130 degrees (54c) and stays hot after the screen goes off.
Everything works great so cooling that chip is an issue.
Maybe I get a new FRC board or just replace that IC. I am sure the issue is one and the same.

  • Re: Sony KDL-55NX720 blinks 4 times

Dd you actually measure the individual tst points whl turning on the set? I measured 3.7v to 3.72v on all of them while starting for just a few seconds. After that they all dropped to 1.6v and a bit lower before the backlights turned off and the four blinks started.
The far right ribbon contacts 11 to 16 also started with 3.7v but went up to 10 v before it shut down.
It just may be one of the strips.

  • Re: LG 55LB6100 Backlights flashing 4 second interval

    Hi budm
Yes read the whole thing and it might indeed be the LED string.
The voltage on the black led- lead that should read 0v actually reads between 10 and 50 volts. That same lead on the white/black pair reads zero.
Does it indicate an open circuit or a short or does it matter?

    Thanks.

  • Re: LG 55LB6100 Backlights flashing 4 second interval

My issue is not the LEDs, it is the power going there.
With power plugged in and TV on, the Blue/Black back light voltage goes from over 200 to zero exactly the way the LEDs flash. When I disconnect the back light LEDs the same power fluctuation occurs at those pins at the connector
Might this indicate a main board issue?
No trace of issues to be seen on both side of the boards.
This issue started when I set my energy saver setting to any settings but off!
Now it is like that full time even...
