• Re: Dell E5550 (LA-A911P Rev 1.0) - strange behavior

I have 19V on PQ700 pin 4 when BIOS battery is inserted. But then power button shows no sign of life.
If no BIOS battery is plugged in, I have 0V on PQ700 pin 4. But power button led will light when pressed.

PD3 without BIOS battery: Pin 1, 3.13V // Pin 2, 0.08V // Pin 3, 3.30V
PD3 with BIOS battery: Pin 1, 3.13V // Pin 2, 2.97V // Pin 3, 3.30V

PQ700 pins 1 8 & 4 with power removed: multimeter reads "open line"
Just to be sure,...

OK, I have tested PQ700 pin 4 again.
With CMOS battery plugged in-> 19.03V (the "original" battery, which is 2.72V)
No CMOS battery -> 0V
I tried with another CMOS battery (2.96V) plugged in but pin 4 -> 0V (???)

Another strange thing is that the power button only reacts when there is no CMOS battery at all or the 2.96V battery is plugged in.

When mains is plugged the button led turns on briefly.
A push on the button will...

Hello Techtiger,

I have looked for pictures of the motherboard and the coils are present on a factory motherboard (see picture attached). I definitely think they are missing on my motherboard. Having said that, I have no idea if the missing coils are responsible for the motherboard failure.
The USB port with the missing coils is the only one that will turn on a lamp led steadily. On the other two USB ports the lamp will only flash for a split second when charger is plugged in.
I suspect there is something...

Merci, Techtiger!

I have had a close look at the mobo. 2 chips are missing in LI5 and LI6 (see pictures attached).

According to the Schematics (attached) the parts are DLW21HN900HQ2L_4P.

They are Chip Common Mode Choke Coils (datasheet is attached).

I have no idea what these chips are (lol). Instead of replacing them, can I possibly bridge pads, just to see if the motherboard will boot?Re: Dell E5550 (LA-A911P Rev 1.0) - strange behavior

Now does anybody know what could be wrong with the motherboard?

Extra info: I have tested the CMOS battery when it is plugged into the motherboard - multimeter indicates 2.7V only.

• Dell E5550 (LA-A911P Rev 1.0) - strange behavior

Hello,

I have a Dell Latitude E5550. I don't know the history of the PC. The battery is missing. BTW I am not too sure the laptop will boot at all with mains but without a battery. Can someone confirm this laptop can boot without a battery attached?

At the moment, here is the behavior:
If I plug the charger and I have a USB led lamp plugged in, the lamp turns on steady (Happens with only one USB port out of 3). When I press the power button, nothing happens. USB lamp stays on, but nothing happens.

If I unplug the CMOS 3V battery, the lamp in...

• Re: Toshiba c660d PSC20E-00U001Y4 bios need

As others here, I flashed my Toshiba with wrong BIOS version. C660D-14C. I was stupid enough to flash with a BIOS from the Toshiba website for a slightly different model (C660D-14V vs. 14C). Restarted to a blank screen
Reflashed with the UMA BIOS version from Ala Borbe. Worked like a charm! Thank you, bro

@ Krist: I don't know if you can flash with a USB stick. I reflashed with a CH341a programmer. Google it or PM me if you need more info.

Thanks again for your help, but it didn't work. There must be a short on the motherboard. I give up on this board.

Hello,

I need to flash main and ec bios for HP 820 G1 (for chips U365 and U366). Please provide both BIOS files.

Thank you

Symptom:
Laptop does not boot. When battery or power is plugged in:
- Fan spins fast for a few seconds then stops
- Power button led is steady white
- Caps lock led is steady white
- Front white led is steady and amber led blinks repeatedly
- CPU heatsink is VERY hot to the touch
- Blank screen (no backlight,...

• Re: Please help me identify a component

My bad. I totally understand what you are saying. I took the liberty to test the mosfets with the battery to provide extra info. Bad idea. From now on I will strictly follow your guidelines.
Tomorrow, I will follow the procedure you mentioned in your previous post and post the results.
Thanks again for your help.

• Re: Please help me identify a component

I removed the charger and plugged in the battery, to test the voltage on both mosfets.
Here are the values in volts with battery only plugged in:
I started with
Mosfet Q6011: Drain 11.40 / Source 11.40 / Gate 11.40

Then I wanted to check Mosfet Q6010. As I was trying to probe pin 5, although I was extra careful, a "dry" noise was heard followed by an "electrical burn" smell. I think I very shortly shorted pin 5 and the solder joint below :/

The reading...

Here are the values in volts with power adapter plugged in:

Mosfet Q6010: Drain 19.15 / Source 3.62 / Gate 3.62

Mosfet Q6011: Drain 3.62 / Source 3.62 / Gate 3.62

FYI, the mosfets on my actual mobo are "E070BN"Re: Please help me identify a component

• Re: Please help me identify a component

Hello mcplslg123,
Sorry to be a complete noob, but I need to clarify.
I would have assumed that it is the component between the two mosfets that was to be tested next - marked "2" in picture below.
But from what you say, the "resistor after Q6011" seems to be the component marked "1" in the picture below.
Which should I remove for tests: 1 or 2?

Also, I attach full pictures of the board for reference:
