Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Awesome Dgtech! I'm glad this is working for you too!
PowerAmpFreak: The fans are still running, I didn't remove them, but I meant it sure doesn't feel like it's doing anything. It probably is, but you know, I guess I was expecting a little more "oomph" like heat BLOWING out the top instead of just making the back of the case feel hot. If I were to cut holes in the back of the case, I bet I would get much better results.

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Just a quick update:
Ran some wires from my HTPC's power supply to a couple 120mm fans at the back of the TV. Doesn't seem to do much. There's just SO MUCH HEAT in this TV. It's almost like I need a 3 foot long squirrel fan at the top just to suck some of it out. It was sooo much cooler with the back off, wish there was a safe way to run it that way.

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
At first I ran the old board with the heatsinks but when the new one came in the mail a couple days later (I still hadn't put the back on the TV yet) I decided to use it instead. I didn't want to take the chance that the old board may still be defective in some way and I'd have to open it all back up again. I'm pretty lazy. Well, not THAT lazy. If I were truly lazy, I would have just gone out and bought a working TVI'm not half as smart at troubleshooting as most of the people on here, so I took the easiest way out and gave...

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Not a bad plan.. I was considering doing something slightly similar although quite a bit more ghetto. Since I put the TV all back together, I really don't feel like taking it all apart again.. mostly the weight of this sucker. I thought since my HTPC is sitting on the stand right below the TV, maybe I could just run a cable out the back of the computer case utilizing one of the empty Molex connectors on the power supply and running two fans attached to the outside of the case thru the venting.
The way I see it,...

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
I didn't know for sure dgtech, but I assumed that's how the blue pads worked. They're a pretty sad excuse for a cooling system. The heatsinks I installed actually rest against the backplate even after I milled them down. I wish I would have taken off maybe a few more thousanths because there is an ever so slight bow to the board when the screws are installed. I may have jumped the gun on the new board but the way I see it, I've got a backup now in case my heatsink theory doesn't work.
My next step is to figure...

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Back again...
So I updated the firmware and it doesn't appear to have helped anything.
I think you're exactly right PlainBill. I think this new board was out of a different sized set. It looks like it's fairly easy to change in the SAM, but I can't make out which code I'm supposed to use. Maybe you can help?
Here is the code list from the manual:
Display Display
Option HEX Type Size Vertical Resolution
000 00 PDP SDI HD V3 42” 768p
001 01 PDP SDI...Last edited by dmitt25; 08-20-2010, 11:12 PM.

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
it looks as if maybe installing the latest firmware might remedy this? I'll try that and let you all know what happens.

Another Update:
Ok guys, the new board came today. So I immediately took the stupid blue jelly-foam crap off the viper chip and the other large chip on the back of the SSB. I applied a thin layer of Artic Silver 5 thermal paste on the chips and then installed a couple aluminum heat sinks I got off Ebay that I had to mill down because they were about 1/16" too tall to fit in the cage. Once I got that done, I put everything back together and fired it up. Works like a champ!
Well, except for one thing.. I may have...

Re: Philips Plasma 50PF7320/10 worth anything?
Don't know if this helps or will steer you off course because I can't find it now, but I read somewhere in the manual that any voltage detected in the lines to the speakers would cause the TV to go into protect.
Look around in your manual for that blurb.
Sorry I can't be more specific.
Edit: nevermind.. didn't read that last entry where you said you disabled the sound altogether.
Glad you got it going!

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Heya guys back again with an update:
So this weekend I took PlainBill's advice and checked all the voltages on everything I could find to check. Everything is within specs as far as I can tell.
I was starting to get discouraged when my neighbor (an electronics tech) thought I should try cooling boards down to see if the TV would stay on longer.
I borrowed a high pressure ducted squirrel fan from him and proceeded to spend the next 4 hours whittling down the variables.
After much experimenting...

This should get you in the ballpark, at least to the right site
I misread your comments, however I got a copy of the service manual for my TV off this site so graciously linked by PlainBill.
hope this helps.Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320<br /...hematics[/url]...

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Quick question:
Can I power up the power supply with it removed from the TV? Just wondering if it will even power up without any load. Reason I ask is, where the TV is and where I will be, are two different places, and I don't want to lug the TV around if I don't have to.
Thanks

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Thanks so much PlainBill! I sure appreciate you taking the time to explain this stuff to a noob like myselfI'll have time this weekend to break out the meter and check out the Power Supply board more thoroughly. Although truth be told I have practically no idea what I'm doing hahaha.

Re: Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Thanks for the quick replies.
I am in the process of going through all the posts pertaining to philips plasma's right now.
I reinstalled the power supply board as suggested to get the error code off the front LED. Powered it up and waited for the fault. When the tv shuts down (on it's own) I can hear a relay trying to kick over 2 or 3 times and then it quits. The front LED indicates 5 blinks then repeats. According to the service manual (if I've decoded correctly), this is error code 5 right?

Philips 42" Plasma 42PF7320
Hello all.
This is my first post here.
I've been lurking this forum off and on for a while. This site helped me fix a samsung LCD monitor in the past. THANKS BADCAPS!! Anyway, I have a Philips Plasma 42PF7320 that I picked up for next to nothing and I assumed that it was the same problem as many others have experienced because the previous owner told me it comes on for a few minutes then shuts off, red light... etc. In my head I thought, "bad caps on the power supply board."
Well, I got the back off the TV last night and all the caps on the...
