  • Re: RCA rlded3950a-b sound but no video

The repair ran for a month then the same cap blew again. Looks like a fault I hadn't found to repair. It seemed to be running hot over that month too. I'm going to take it in to the repair shop now (having let them know I had a go at fixing it). Could in part be due to my poor soldering skills (poor solder joints).

Mosfet is burnt out and underside of board is browned (possibly excess resin from soldering the surface mount resistors).

Still, I had a good time trying to fix it and have spare components to send...

Whoops. I misread the resistor value, 47 Ohm not 470 Ohm. I ordered ERJ-P08J470V 47 Ohm Surface Mount Resistors. Will desolder the 470 Ohm ones and replace with the above.

Usually use the TV without the inbuilt sound, tried using sound and nothing. Not sure when that part of the system failed. Might be related to the power supply issue or might not.

I had the same problem and fixed my TV following the instructions in these posts. It's the same power supply in an Hitachi LE42EC04AUD.

Using a loupe I saw that the solder joint for one of the transformer pins looked cracked (near the 470ohm resistors) so I re-soldered that for good measure.

For the 470 Ohm Surface Mount Resistors (burnt out like the OP experienced) I used [I]Panasonic ERJP08F4700V SMD Chip Resistor, Thick Film, 470 ohm, 500 V, 1206 [3216 Metric], 660 mW, ± 1%, ERJP08 Series packaged in Cut Tape...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hello folks,

I'm Ben, here from the land Down Under (Australia)! I've got a few TVs I'm looking to repair (mostly blown caps I think, go figure), plus an old BBC Micro with a blown filter cap (power supply).

Looking forward to chatting to people on here
