ROFL I am soooo sorry to have wasted so much of your brilliant wisdom and quality internet trolling time ((((rolling eyes))))) Your esteemed brain trust contributed nothing before and contributes nothing now. Since I could not find the way to delete the original post, I at least had the decency to post a summary of the solution.

Lets review the bidding--I registered was told I could make a post but not to post a new thread--ok enough review.

Thank you for your totally non beneficial post. I understand the compulsion to say something...

Sorry that you did not get the advantage of a multi room school house education that it took you minutes to read (((rolling eyes)))). Sorry that your misplaced sense of self importance compelled you to give a nonsense response. That must have wasted hours of your time.

Lets review the bidding---I registered and was told I could post but not start a new thread. Enough review.

I solved the issue without the input of any of the brain trust you claim to represent. Hope you can read this before 2018 but if not Merry Christmas

Solved. Somewhere the ground has been used as a neutral such that when a 3 prong plug is plugged into he outlet, regular ac current is thrown onto the ground everywhere. When the co0-0ax is attached to the cable box the current runs out to the co-ax ground point. Anytime sparks fly from the co-ax or HDMI port look to a hot neutral/ground in the outlet. The problem can go unnoticed for decades so long as inly 2 pronged plugs are used--introduce a 3 prong with hot ground and sparks will fly

Too new here to start a thread so I am hijacking this one. Got a refurbed TX-47F430S Westinghouse 47 inch home from the store where it was working fine, plugged it in and I have sparking voltage on every HDMI and Coax connector yet tv comes on, big W logo. Anynone heard of this before and where would I start looking for the short. It fried my cable box and i am about to go check exact voltage from the short.
