  • Re: EMI filter before transformer, good or bad ?

    Hi Dannyx,

Just my 10p worth. If the components in the filter are still servicable then it will do no harm.

I am a radio amateur and can verify that EMC filters do help to reduce or eliminate Radio Frequency Interference.

Just be sure that the current rating of the EMC filter is sufficient for the current you will be passing through it though from the picture it should be good for a few Amps.

    Cheers,

  • Plasma Panel Experiments 2

    Hi again,

This is a follow-up posting to my original "Plasma Panel Experiments" posting.
Briefly, I am looking to light-up a few pixels of an old plasma panel just to satisfy curiosity.
The initial stage was research which has been successful thanks to help from a member of this forum and I now feel ready to apply some Volts to varios pins of the display panel.

The only issue I still have is in relating the groups of connections on the PDP to connections described in some of the "theory" texts I have read. In particular the International...

I had no idea the EU regulation was just a "myth", at one point it was even mentioned on the news warning that plasma tv,s would vanish from showrooms within a year.

Just out of interest, we replaced the BER plasma with another LG but this time an LCD 60"
Not perfect but certainly the blacks are darker than the old plasma set and it uses a fraction of the power. But to be fair it is almost 12 years newer :-)

    Hi tom66,

Thankyou for taking the time to present such an in-depth and educational response. From the texts I had allready read it seemed that plasma display technology was indeed complex but after reading your fascinating response the word "complex" seems like an understatement :-)

I found your response very interesting and will have to read and re-read it a number of times for it to fully sink in. Having said that, just reading your post and looking again at the pcb's and PDP ribbons it all makes much more sense...

  • Plasma Panel experiments?

    Hi everyone,

This is my first public posting to this forum so "Hi" to everyone and sorry if some of the following questions seem a little "dumb" on my part.

I am a semi retired ex-tv service chap here in the UK who has spent many years in electronics both as a hobby and as a paying job. I enjoy "tinkering" and recently had cause to scrap an old LG 50PX4D plasma tv but as part of the strip-down and recovery of components I found myself curious about the general operation of plasma displays.

    Following some research on the...

  • Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

    Hi Folks,

The name here is Des and I have joined this forum because of the high standard of the technical postings I have been reading here. My prime interest is radio but like most enthusiasts I have an interest in all things technical.

I recently scrapped an old plasma tv since it was quite old, beyond economical repair and used energy like there was no tomorrow. But I was interested in how the plasma display connections are arranged and would like to "fire-up" a few pixels just to satisfy...
