Re: LG 55LN5600- Sound but no backlight
@budm, read your post. Same style connector and you're absolutely right. I always prefer through hole vs. SMT on connectors (in most cases) but in this case would have to worry about shorting to the the 'tub'. Amazon says that TV was first available April 9, 2013 so roughly same vintage too. Hopefully they change the strip design.
So if no back light, voltages check out, no obvious LEDs failures --> check strip connectors.

Re: LG 55LN5600- Sound but no backlight
@DjKrish That is quite likely the case but the connections are mostly under the connector. To quote Arlo Guthrie's Alice's Restaurant:
"at the bottom of the cliff was another pile of garbage. And we decided that one big pile was better than two little piles, and rather than bring that one up, we decided to throw ours down."
Since it was a B!TCH to handle a wobbly 4 ft x 2.5 ft LCD panel, I felt it was better to solder around the connection and know it was going to work rather than try to fix. I did NOT...

Re: LG 55LN5600- Sound but no backlight
Thanks for the responses @budm and @attainteddragon. I finally got back to this monster this afternoon. The 'PWR-ON' and 'DRV-ON' signals appear to be solid (LOW when off and constant 3.2-3.4 VDC when ON) so it's not the main board.
It 'appeared' all LEDs were briefly coming on (flash) but just to make sure I used my cell phone in the video mode while I did so. After stepping through frame by frame, it appears the bottom rows weren't coming on. There are seven (7) rows of LEDs with each row split into halves. The top four (4)...Last edited by TheEngler; 09-16-2017, 06:34 PM.

@budm Attached are pics of the main board and power supply.
Can I power this monster up without the TCON connected to the panel and not cause damage?Re: LG 55LN5600- Sound but no backlight

So I won't damage anything by not having the panel connected?

LG 55LN5600- Sound but no backlight
This is my first post on BadCaps.net. I have an LG 55LN5600 of the dreaded 2013 vintage that the backlight died on. It powers up and the screen will display normally for anywhere between 0.5 to 30 seconds. After the backlight dies, I can see the screen contents by using a flashlight. It was my parent's TV and they decided to replace it so they gave it to me since I'm an electrical engineer. I should also mention the TV was/is covered by a Square Trade warranty which still has 3 months of coverage left.
