  • SONY STR-K840P Protection Mode

    SONY Amplifier displays PROTECTED error.
While checking noble resistors(5W 2-0.22Ohm) I have found one that shows different voltage value on his middle leg(52 V)-others show 3 V.
I've checked output transistors. They are OK.
Even though I've replaced resistor it still shows 52 V and amplifier is still in PROTECT mode.
    Any ideas?

  • Re: Sony STR-DE345 receiver repair, "PROTECT" (fixed)

I've unsoldered these diodes from the PCB and tested them. They are OK.
After that I've thought that may be I've missed something during noble resistors test. So I tested the middle lid of each noble resistor with DC voltage 'live' and I found one irregularity.
One resistor shows -052.6v DC while others show -3.383v DC. Does it mean that this one is bad?

    Thank you,
    Guram

Thank you very much for your quick response!

I have checked them with diode range of the multimeter. They are conducing only one way, which I suppose is normal. But when I checked the same type of diodes next to their coils(one per each) D701, D710, D610 and two more(I don't see their numbers well) they are conducing both ways with 187v and 422v(only one).
Based on this - can I conclude that they are damaged?

    Kind regards,
    Guram

    Hello Chungalin,

I guess I have the same problem with SONY HT-DDW840
I have already checked output MN2488 / MP1620 transistors. They look OK.

Sorry, I am new in electronics. Could you tell me where to find these diodes on the board?

    Regards,
    Guram...
