Re: Insignia 32" LCD TV Model# NS-32LCD
Hey all, just fyi I still haven't fixed my tv. Work has prevented a lot of trouble shooting time but I ordered a replacement power supply and logic board ( the board w the heat sink) installed that last night and it still didn't come on.

Re: Crate KX-80 Keyboard Amp fuse pops immediately
oh, and I used the barrel caps on those ones that I asked about because the axial caps had a factory ESR of 44ohm, and that was way more than what was in there before, and the regular caps, though required some creative bending of the contacts, they had a similar ESR to the one that was not damaged. (I replaced both so they matched, but used the non damaged one as a reference.)

Re: Crate KX-80 Keyboard Amp fuse pops immediately
update, it works!Replaced 8 caps, 4 diodes, 2 zener diodes, and put it back together. Now, it is functioning as well as it did before it died, however, it still "pops" loudly when turned on, and off. Is there any reason for that? If its not a "oh that's a problem with the ...... and you just have to replace ....." then I'm not going to tear it back apart. If its a simple thing, I'll open her back up.
Thanks again for all your help! Again, you have fixed yet another piece of equipment, and saved it from...

Re: Crate KX-80 Keyboard Amp fuse pops immediately
OK, so I ordered the replacement caps, they will be here Friday. I ordered both the axial caps that are 3.3uF 63V (because the 50V were not available in axial) and I also ordered 3.3uF 50V "can" caps because they are the correct voltage. What I don't know, is which would be better? Anyone have an opinion? I know there shouldn't be anything wrong with going up in voltage, but can you use the radial caps in place of the axial caps?

Re: Crate KX-80 Keyboard Amp fuse pops immediately
*UPDATE* Ok, got parts in. Installed the diodes for the bridge rectifier, decided to use my new Atlas ESR70 meter and on the in-circuit caps to test before I add power... Glad I did. (or better yet, wish I'd had it when I ordered the last set of parts... >;F I found a cap that indicated >40ohms, removed it from circuit and retested. Failed miserably. It was a 3.3uf 50V axial cap. While desoldering it and trying to pull it out, I grabbed the wrong cap, and pulled the leg out of the cap. Its a 1uf 50V cap... So great. Now I...

Re: Viewsonic VX910
I don't know if you still have this monitor or power supply, but I just got an ESR meter, and I saved my caps from the repair knowing some day I would get one, and the 4 aluminum caps I replaced were all in tolerance and low ESR, so that was not my problem. I also replaced the red poly cap, the 2 little blue caps by the transformer, and the 2 transistors on the bottom of the board. Get a flux pen, its helps!

Re: Select-able wall wart power supply - dead
So for anyone rise in the future reading this thread, is there a faster way that I could have found this out sooner? I don't mind, I was taking it apart for fun.but for a problem like this, What is the process of diagnosing the failed parts on one of these?

Yeah, so dead transformer? Is it cheaper to just buy another ps or get the transformer?

Ac prongs are open. No tone on continuity test open ohm reading. However all prongs that come off the bottom of it are shorted. They all have continuity which I would Imagine is bad... lol

Re: Select-able wall wart power supply - dead
There are about 7 wires that come off this transformer. Which 2 are the primary pair?

Select-able wall wart power supply - dead
hello, this is probably simple, but I searched and didn't find a thread with this specific repair, so I thought if nothing else, I'll document mine.
This is a variable voltage output wall wart power supply, with reversible polarity. It was mainly used for a power supply for audio pedal boards. It has died. This could go under audio, I suppose, but because it is a universal power supply, I thought this section to be better.
This was my friends, and the cord looks like a candy cane its so twisted... Maybe there's a short there somewhere.
When I plug...

Re: Crate KX-80 Keyboard Amp fuse pops immediately
ok, I got shipment #1 in. It had the caps and the zener diodes (what are zener diodes anyway, and what do they do?!) Installed those parts. The other 4 diodes had to be shipped directly from the manufacturer as they are not stocked parts anywhere, it seems. they should have been shipped out today so I'll have those in a couple days. Needless to say, i can't power on yet until those are in. Just wanted to give you all an update.
Oh, and I originally ordered the Nichicon 35v caps that matched, but also ordered the...
