• Re: Clarification of values?

Even with the "High End" caps, I'm finding it kind of hard to get close to the RC values of the originals. That is unless I step into the 50/100V ranges. Little buggers have some juice flowing through them LoL. There are twelve 16V/100uF (RC of 211 mArms) per 80.4 and seven in the 1200, which totals 43. This is going to get expensive quick!! LoL Oh well, I figure do it now and get another 15+ years out of them....

"Over the Rainbow" is just a reference to the 1939 film, The Wizard of OZ. At times I feel as if I am on the other side that no one can ever see :-(

I couldn't agree with you more, JBL/Harmon/Crown should have known better, however, this series (P & BP) are considered the "prototypes" for the "Crown Designed & Engineered" models that followed the next year. The Crowns use better parts and are laid out differently for a more aesthetically pleasing appearance, but it is the same design, except with...

We have here X3 JBL 80.4 class A/B amps and one JBL 1200.1 Class D
YES I know the "ground strap" is off. They will all have to be taken apart AGAIN....... Once I get the caps shipped. :-( I would really like to upgrade the 80.4's in both power output and clarity, however, I'm not skilled enough in that department....

Indeed GooGle IS NOT! LoL
I will be adding those to the search bar from now on!!!! THX
I knew there was a site I had seen that had that sheet, and I could have sworn I snaged it, but knowing me it was 4 A.M. and I had 20 different pages open HAHAHA Even though it doesn't give the exact specs for this "one-off series I guess", with all of the other information I have received from you guys, I'm sure I can get it in the ballpark. All of the caps in these amps are <= 25mm tall.

Once again, I greatly...

IDK where or how you found that but, THANK YOU very much!!! I have hunted, scoured, contacted, backtracked, and could not for the life of me find that one LoL Really, Thank You!!

THANK YOU VERY MUCH for taking the time to explain and write that! I'm unsure of what I can do to repay the favor? Your explanation "made me see the light at the end of the tunnel"! THX

• Re: Clarification of values?

What if you can't find any information about the ESR? I honestly can't find any data sheets on one series of caps I have. I have contacted the manu multiple times with no response and have scoured the net to the best of my abilities.
And thank you for your response!!
The cap I can't find is a SamWah 25V 2200uF (RX) series. 16mm X 25mm D X L

• Clarification of values?

I have been reading so much information about ele caps and think my brain is on overload/shut down mode. LoL My main concern is that I do not want to alter the amplifier specifications in any manner that will adversely effect their circuitry and operation.
I am going to be replacing a lot of electrolytic caps (~250) and could use a little clarification on the more technical parameters.
(Low IMP, Long Life) Needs to be <= Orig IMP? While Ripple Current needs to be >= Orig values?
What if ESR isn't given by the manu?? Where do I go from there?
(General Purpose...

• Re: Help Finding SAMWHA & SamYoung Data Sheets/Info

Ok I see the dims in that reference number, 35 dia X 25L. I agree buncha BS!! The main thing I am really concerned with on these is the ripple current. Amp is "rated" 1200RMS, but most tests put it around 1500.

Well this is what I got from them,
"Thanks for your inquiry.
My name is from Overseas sales team of Samwha Electric, Seoul Korea.
We did internally check with your requested item,
and our part no. HC1H828M35025HA100 is matched your request.
Plz find attached Samwha Electrics' company profile."
I'm at a loss because I have no idea what those numbers are supposed to mean.

I somehow stumbled upon this section of the site that loads quick and has a list of the caps per that ElE. type.
http://www.samwha.com/electric/product/goodsDetail.aspx?f_num=40
I am going to shoot them an email and hope for some help on the RX and HC versions Re: Help Finding SAMWHA & SamYoung D...f_num=40

• Re: Help Finding SAMWHA & SamYoung Data Sheets/Info

Much appreciated for the help, however, ....... LoL I don't think that is the right one for the HC's. Unless they have their dimensions listed backwards? According to their legend it's Dia X L, 35mm X 30mm. I just re-measured them and I get ~36mm OD, prolly due to them being a hair swollen and the shrink wrap, and 26mm (L) with a hard plastic top cover and heat shrink on them. @30mm (L)they would come in direct contact with the bottom cover plate of the amplifier. I have taken a couple of pics to hopefully show. In the last...

• Help Finding SAMWHA & SamYoung Data Sheets/Info

I have a couple of amplifiers that are around 15+ Y/O and while a few of the alum cans NEED to be replaced, I am just going to replace them all at the same time. However, LoL, I can't seem to find much information besides what's actually on them. I.E. V/uF/Brand/Series/Temps. I don't want to throw $150 in caps at them (esp with all the work required to change them out) and find out that because the ripple current/esr/impedance is now different from what the original design called for, the power supply or audio output side is doing something funky and now the drivers are toast, or there is now...

• Re: Replacement Caps for bulged HERMEI??

I think the main part that was throwing me off was the fact that the data sheet gives values for the impedance max @ 25*C AND -10*C (100kHz) in standard Ohm readings while the Mouser/Digikey part finders are in mOhm format. As well as the small variations between the charted "Ultra low imp, High ripple" vs. "STANDARD SIZE, RATED RIPPLE CURRENT" which I can't deduce any markings on the caps themselves to indicate what they in fact are.

0949 = Date code! The mystery has been solved!! LoL, I really didn't know that. But yes I DO take very good care of my electronics. This is the first year I have had that HDD player in my shop as it is usually inside my "equipment rack" which is cooled by numerous fans. I did Frankenstein the top of the player so it now has X2 80MM fans pulling air out. Honestly I think I have to take more blame in the fault of that cap as it was pushing 100*F easy, in the shop for 5-6 hours!!

• Replacement Caps for bulged HERMEI??

I really have been trying to do my own research here and it seems that every time I think I know what values I need, something changes, or I really DON'T understand them as well as I thought.

Scenario is that I use a HDD player in my shop via toslink, the weather started getting warm a week ago and I couldn't shut it off. I pulled the plug, let it cool down, fired it up to make sure it still worked, brought it inside then opened it up and found a cap that had bulged/vented.

I'm not an electrical engineer however, I have no problems with a soldering iron and caps,...
