Hi Guys.
Seen some replies so I thought I may aswel pop on. I still have the TV lol. Not touched it since I last posted really.
The ribbons do have some sort of chip inside but as far as I can remember they do not get hot to the touch at all. Would be nice to see it up and running again as it’s such a good TV and would save me splashing out a hell of a lot more money but I don’t think I can give the info required as I’m not fantastic with a multimeter with all the settings...

Seeing a lot of H Series models with the fault of late. You have the same issue as me. And I think it's due to a short as mentioned. Probably a SMD that has failed and needs replacing (hopefully) soon as I get a soldering iron I'll be pulling all my caps off to test.Leave a comment:

Had the TV on for 15-20mins the other day mate but nothing on the panel seemed to get hot. Just the T-Con that nearly burnt my hand it was that hot lol. Don't know if it was supposed to get that hot :|...Leave a comment:

Quick update and done the test on the Resistance 200 setting and everything resulted in "1" which I assume all SMDs are working correctly or current is still getting through them!
I guess next steps is to remove 1 SMD by 1 and test when off the board?Leave a comment:

I didn't actually test all the SMDs bud. I was just going off what the probes were doing and aborted the test as I was reading into what the probes were doing too much when I put them together.
Tried this also bud. Nothing's got hot at all besides the T-Con which was really hot to the touch even after just 10-15mins on!...Leave a comment:

I understand '1' is over range Budm. But I was looking for a result with the probes put together after having them on the SMD to which I was just getting crazy random results which didn't make any sense.
So basically if all SMDs remain at 1 when testing on the board then they are ok is what I assume....Leave a comment:

in the end gave up on the 200 Resistance test. The results made no sense at all and all I was getting was "1" when the probes was on the SMD and when I probed them together the numbers were fluctuating all over the place depending how much force was used to put the probes together. Either I'm doing something wrong or the multimeter is f****d?
TVs been apart that many times most screws are now missing and don't lock into the threads anymore lol.Leave a comment:

Currently trying to do this 200 setting test. Everything just appears on the screen as "1" soon as I release and put the probes together figures are just all over the place and goes back to 1.0. If I move or put the probes together hard the results are even higher.
I don't know if I'm doing the test right or doing something wrong. There is no T-Con connected nor power supply connected. Just trying to measure blind but results are definitely not correct and frustrating to say the least lolLeave a comment:

Thanks Budm, not afraid to admit I'm a noob to all this but willing to learn everything possible and determind to fix the short (before my missus kills me haha)
So tomorrow morning I will strip it down and re-test every single part on 200 setting and get back to you all. I take it i should get some form of reading on every SMD on that setting and any 0 will indicate a short? Have you repaired any of these panels with a short yet Budm?

Hey man. I believe you have the exact same issue as me! When the other side is plugged in the tcon board you get half a black/white fuzzy screen then all goes to white. I refuse to believe the screen is bad as all tabs are perfect condition. I just don't think many have ever digged deep enough to carry out an extensive repair....Leave a comment:

My test was carried out on this multimeter on this setting. It actually read 018 but I presume that meant 1.8 resistance. Pic attached of the exact multimeter and arrow pointing at what setting it was on

Ok another update! Done the test for the 3rd time and got a result off all the SMD caps! No T-Con installed and tested every cap. All went to 2000 before the machine went back to 1 as it could not increase anymore.
SMDs that hit 1.8 were as follows...
C102, C103, A rectangular SMD, C303, C403, C501, C502, C503, C005, C002, C603, C703, C803.
This leads me to think it could be the 2F or 1P 3 pin chip on the board? Does anyone know how I would test that on the multimeter?

Hi Budm!
I actually Re-run the test on the 200k setting and got much better results. I was doing it with 1 probe at each end of the SMD.
Had no power connected but sadly did not remove the T-Con ribbons. Guessing I made another noob move there?
When I put both probes together they display 0 although when i was doing the test they was giving a little result which i can't remember now so I guess I made another mistake there? Lol

Ok I run the test again and here's my results for each side...
The block of SMDs below the sticky note gave 0 for everyone besides the rectangular one on the left and where C202 started all gave results onwards.

On the right side of the panel results were consistent with the left side. The block of SMDs on the right side from C706 to C719 gave 0 result.

There was a cap from each section that read 0 but they could be a earth possibly?

All on the right side gave a lower result on the same setting (side that fails to display image)
Did not try power on to see if any got hot though, may have to try that again tonight. Everything looked perfect on the panel boards and when i unscrewed the bezel the ribbons were in perfect condition also....Leave a comment:

I have just checked resistance on every single one of them SMDs and the only ones that gave me a 0 result are as follows...
C102
C202
C302
C402
C502
C602
C702
C802
Majority of the SMDs read 1.1 on the right side panel
Majority of SMDs on Left hand side read between 1.8 and 2.3. Only 1 which was C101 read 1.4!
