Re: AOpen FSP300-60BT(12V)
Replaced the cap with a Sanyo MV-WX series low ESR one (it's OK, isn't it?), removed the shrink tube from the resistor and the PSU is working fine again.

Re: AOpen FSP300-60BT(12V)
I'm not sure it failed because of the "bad cap problem". The failed cap is connected between +5V (the red wires near the capacitor) and ground. The resistor must have been quite hot to make the shrink tube look like that, right?Last edited by sulbert; 12-30-2005, 07:26 AM.

AOpen FSP300-60BT(12V)
Has one bad cap - Jamicon TK series 3300uF 10V (all the other caps - almost all Teapos - look OK) and a burnt resistor (caused by the bad cap?).
It was connected to a board that had bad caps (Epox 8K9A2+) and the previous owner claimed that it still was still stable - didn't try it myself, thought I will fix it at first.

Re: Epox 8k9a2+ bad caps
Thank you but I already bought 12.5mm Sanyos from a local electronics store (the owner of the board wanted it back ASAP). Looks ugly IMHO but it works.

Re: Epox 8k9a2+ bad caps
Need to recap one of these boards too. The board lying on my desk has Sanyo MV-WX caps instead of 3300uF Teapos so I have a bit less work
But I have trouble finding replacement for the 2200uF/10V GSC caps located between the FETs - 10mm is the largest diameter that will fit there but I have only found 12.5mm 10V caps so far (and I think I can't replace them with the 6.3V ones since they seem to be connected to the 5V rail).

Re: MS-6340 v1 - really weird problem
Does the buck controller get hot? Mine got hot when the board crashed. I read in some kind of Russian message board that replacing the inductors would help... But there were no values given or something.

Re: MS-6340 v1 - really weird problem
What buck controller does it have? I have a socket A MSI mATX (don't remember the exact model number and can't check it right now) that had SC1155 and was unstable and did all kinds on weird things.

Re: Leadtek WinFast Titanium
Replaced the bulging caps with the OS-CONs taken from the dead card. Didn't have any time to test it exhaustively but it seemed to work fine. If it doesn't, my sister will surely complain as soon she's back from vacation

Leadtek WinFast Titanium
Bulging - no surprise - 1000uF GSC caps.
The interesting thing is that I have another almost identical card (slower memories and main graphics chip of course, but the PCB is identical and the smaller components also; unfortunately the card has been abused by its previous owner and can only be used as a parts donor) named WinFast GeForce2 Pro that has OS-CON 360uF polymer caps in place 1000uF electrolytic ones.

Re: Aopen AX37 Pro
Replaced the vented Lelons with Panasonic FC-s and both boards passed my stability tests

Re: Bios corrupted, or bad caps?
Does the floppy LED light up?
What happens when you put a floppy in the drive that has the BIOS image renamed to amiboot.rom on it?

Leadtek Winfast A170 DDR
GSC 1500 uF caps, three of them leaking:
Replaced with Sanyo MV-WX and the card is OK again:

Converter?
In most datasheets I have seen they call it a buck controller.

Not that good but IMHO this MSI board still worth of looking:

There was a whole can of flux used (you can find traces of it all over the board); some bad caps replaced...Last edited by willawake; 05-27-2005, 12:44 PM.

So it is still worth of trying to replace the caps with known good ones as the first step?

These were replaced before I started to read this forum - some time last autumn (found the board in my dead motherboard box yesterday). I guess they are still better than the old bulging caps, aren't they?...Last edited by sulbert; 05-18-2005, 09:01 AM.

Thanks a lot. Then it's not the fault of the capacitors probably... Need to do some further research...

Please help me to identify these caps

Who is the producer of the red/brown 3300 uF caps on the photo? Are they suitable for motherboard applications? It's a Shuttle AV11 that has been unsuccessfully recapped. Will try to get it working again.
