  • Re: Issue with Westinghouse 19" LCD Monitor (large pics)

The question came up in my mind because of these two facts: 1. Going through this forum it looks to me like the prime suspects of hardware failure are the capacitors. 2. Gigabyte recently promoting their high-end motherboards emphasizing on the use of 50,000 hours solid capacitors. So, let's wait for PlainBill to come up with his comments..

Hello all again! So finally I replaced all the capacitors except the big one. I was too lazy for that one ... Infact the idea of bigger ones has less chance to go bad influenced me to try skipping that one, but the major reason was the new replacement cap I got from digi-key has short and very thick legs, still I could use that attaching two little pieces of copper wires if I really had to. But anyway, my TV/Monitor started working again. Thanks a lot retiredcaps, PlainBill, eguevarae. Just a little question....

You noticed retiredcaps yeah, in my original post#258 i misread the voltage somehow, that should've been 10v. What do you think about the last i.e. 100UF 400V ELECT TSHA? If that one seems okay to you guys, then I can go ahead and place the order.

Ok, so here is my selection. I looked for FM at first, but FM was not available for 47uF 50v and 100uF 400v, so then I looked for FC and found 47uF. But it said FC's lifetime is only 1000 hours (?) or did they mean to say that it lasts 1000 hours if it has to work at 105 degree temp? Well, then TSHA seems to be the only one that matches the size and rating both. Pls let me know of any change since I did not place the order yet.

    1 - P12927-ND CAP ELECT 22UF 50V FM RADIAL
    2 - P12389-ND CAP 470UF 25V...

Okay, so I should replace all the caps ? Well, I can see two types of capacitors here. Whole list is as follows:
    1 x CapXon KF 105°c 100uF 400v
    1 x CapXon KF 105°c 2200uF 25v
    2 x CapXon KF 105°c 1000uF 25v
    1 x CapXon KF 105°c 1000uF 10v
    2 x CapXon GL 105°c 470uF 25v
    2 x CapXon GL 105°c 47uF 50v

I will go to digikey per your suggestion. But what do you suggest me to buy? I have read some negative comments about CapXon on this forum..

Thanks Plainbill for the info that a bad cap does not always show short. Well, you were talking about bulging.. that draws my attention.. I haven't notice before there are 2 caps bulging a little bit. One 2200 microfarad 10v, and one 1000 microfarad 25v. Are they going to be my prime suspect now?
BTW.. is there any short form to say 'microfarad' in here? I dont see any option to type in the greek letter 'mu'

Thanks retiredcaps for response! No, the power LED does not come at all. Since it does not have a hard power button, the LED was expected to come on as long as the TV/Monitor is plugged in. Pressing the soft power button the LED was supposed to change the color. I dont remember what color though After opening it up, when I plug in the SMPS section all I get is the faint oscillation noise. Does it mean it is working?

The voltages I referred to was that measured against the two pins of each of the capacitors....

So nice I found a mate! I believe I have the same Westinghouse 19" TV/Monitor as snowcrashed but I have the same circuit board DAC-19M015 in my hand right now. The set wont power up. In fact it doesn't show any sign of power. So I opened it up and trying to make sure that the problem is with the power supply unit i.e. DAC-19M015 Rev. 02A. I just went through all the posts and found some such units (esp. snowcrashed's one) started working replacing the caps. But how do I know if the problem is with the power unit...
