• Re: Are Dell's PS_ID and HP's ADP_ID interchangeable across all models?

I apologise about not providing details of the laptop, I initially intended to ask a general question that spans across all models rather than a specific model and the discussion digressed.

Nonetheless, I will start a new thread with details of my case.

Thank you...

Hi, Resistance on the ADP line is 10K ohms.

Mind, I have now cut the track to the EC. However, it was 10K even when the track was in tact. The EC didn't heat up and the laptop is/was not drawing excessive current (20mA before pressing the power button and 150mA a few seconds after pressing the power button.

The middle pin on the adapter is 18.7v. I assumed that this is ok since the adapter is working fine on my other hp laptop and is supposed to be compatible across...

Thank you Piernov for your excellent reply. That has cleared up a lot.

This leads me to an issue that I'm having regarding the ADP_ID pin on the EC.

That centre pin on my adapter is 18.7v and I'm getting only 0.5v approx. on that EC pin. Looking at the schematic, since the Zener diode is there and has a breakdown voltage of 3.6v, I'm assuming that the pin should be held around that 3.6v. Is this correct?

Also, As a little exercise, I removed all of the components...

• Are Dell's PS_ID and HP's ADP_ID interchangeable across all models?

Hi All,

So I'm trying to get into laptop motherboard repair and am having trouble understanding Dell's PSID issue.

According to a site I come across :
https://hackaday.com/2014/03/03/hacking-dell-laptop-charger-identification/
Original Dell adapters use a ds2501 to communicate with the laptop SIO using the '1-Wire' system to inform the SIO of the chargers current rating.

The confusion I have is, do the adapters communicate anything other than that? If not, is a single charger sufficient to use across all models that the charger...

• Re: HP Probook 450 G2 - No Power

The power LED doesn't switch off at all any more. I'm just getting a flashing adapter LED. This started since I shorted pins 1 and 2 on RT8243. I will try to take a photo of the caps and send it later today.

btw, which Voltages on page 58 should not be missing?

Hi Caspain,

Sorry for taking so long to reply, been a little tied up lately.

Right, I have checked all of the voltages on page 58 as you advised.

Here's what I have missing.

DDR RT8027
missing SLP_S4# input
missing 1.35V_VDDQ output
missing 0.675V VS output
missing DDR_PGD output

SY8206
missing SLP_S3# input on enable pin
missing 1.05VS output
missing 1.05V_PGD

SY8003
missing SLP_S3#...

• Re: HP Probook 450 G2 - No Power

Caspian, thanks a lot for clearing that up for me.

At the IC RT8207MZQW, I should be getting an output of 1.35V and 0.675V. I'm not getting any output at all at any of the output pins.

The top of the chip seems a little rough/corroded too, it doesn't have the shiny surface that other IC's have. But, could it be that this IC only outputs the 1.35V and 0.675V on the condition that SLP_S4# is present on pin 8? Or, is this irrelevant at this point?

(btw, I don't have SLP_S4, but I do have SLP_S3.)...

• HP Probook 450 G2 - No Power

Hi Guys,

I'd like to start by mentioning that I'm a complete newbie at electronics and motherboard repair so please be patient with me if I sound a little confusing at times. I am however, learning fast and enjoying the ride!

I have quite a few issues with this HP probook 450 and i'll try to go through them once I get past understanding this one hurdle.

Initial problem : Orange LED was on when the charger was plugged in and Power Button LED came on when button was pressed. Both lights turned off after about 8 seconds and nothing started up.

• Re: New Members - please post your introductions here

Hi All,

My name is Omar. I'm a total newbie at electronics and laptop repair but it's something I've always wanted to learn. I'm now trying to 'learn by doing' and I'm here looking for a little help when I get stuck. (I'm already stuck btw)

I look forward to meeting you guys and hopefully, one day, be in a position to help out some other poor little newbie.
