Re: Sharp 20 inch TV + No Input 1/2 Video
Sorry for a late bump.
This "mod" was a solder job to install a modchip in a Ps2 console. I don't wanna open the TV itself since it has high voltage.
Thanks anyways.. :/

Re: Asus Crosshair IV Formula - no boot, no post, not powering up...
If you are going to DIY for the heck of it, and if somehow warranty isn't a concern, then I would just replace the "shorted" capacitors.
Also, check the voltage regulators for shorts or if it is in working condition.
Check all of your PC components if they are working just to be sure, it doesn't have to be all of them. Just the essentials, CPU/RAM/MEMORY/VGA.

Re: Recapping: What brands work best?
Some good info already posted. But my 2 cents on this:
A 105C+ rating and the capcitence, ripple and a low ESR value is what you want.
Rubycon and Nichicon brands are well known for "GOOD" caps, atleast that's my take on it.

Re: How to remove leftover solder
Clean the tip of your soldering iron. Just repeat these steps. It should be cleaned w/ the proper use of a wick.

Sharp 20 inch TV + No Input 1/2 Video :(
Hey guys!
Just happend recently when I was modding my Ps2 fat console. Plugged into the Input 1/2 video source which is the RCA. Now I don't get any video output even with other devices.
I think something got "shorted" from my modding session in the TV itself.
Any tips I should look out w/ the use of a Multi-meter?
Thanks for reading!
PS:
The TV is an old CRT.

Re: $5 goodwill tower
@ratdude
That is a good buy for $5. It can still run Linux for the heck of it.
Nice find!

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V2
Well that means investing on a much "better" aftermarket cooler. The Freezer64 series! I Want..

Re: Draining caps
So I guess it's safe to say that values that are found in most Motherboards ranging from 1500 ~ 3300uF are safe to use the "screwdriver method"? hehe

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V2
Good measurement on placing those washers. Board flexing reminds me of the Xbox 360 with the 3RL/X-Clamp fixes.

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V2
Wow that is a nice fit for that CPU cooler!
Noob question! Why are the metal washers in use for? I see two of them in each 4 sockets.. hehehe

Re: Ratdude's Main rig V2
This makes me wanna build an old-school AMD Socket A rig!
Just saw an old DFI Lanparty nForce2 board from a local Computer shop. Was in prestine condition and selling for $40. If it's still there, I wish I could haggle the owner.. LOL
@ratdude
Nice rig overall! Especially the 9800 AGP card..

DIY Capacitor Discharge Tool
Would anyone know a proper capacitor discharge tool for motherboards made from resistors? I've searched Google but there's alot of them. I'd just like to know a PROPER ohm/resistor for the tool.
Thanks!
