Re: Asus g46vw help with missing cap unknown value
I had a scrap Asus laptop motherboard that had some 100nF caps, so I threw those into the repair board.
With the Power plugged in I got a solid orange battery light.
I left it plugged in for a while to see if it would change/charge.
No change same solid no blinking orange light.
Pressed power button...and booted (same as before)
before I could check out the battery status utility...suddenly shut off.
a few tries but no luck .... just same shut off.

Re: Asus g46vw help with missing cap unknown value
i de-soldered one side of the adjacent cap, it measured 95.4 nF on the multi-meter.
does 95nF on meter = 100nF cap?
is so, does a 100nF cap seem reasonable here.
the transistor? it connects to has "l44" and k8? or kb? written on it.
thanks for the help!

Re: Asus g46vw help with missing cap unknown value
thanks for the reply...metal detector...i should have thought of that...ha ha.
a few more questions:
is it possible that this cap is the reason the battery was not charging?
or would 0% while plugged in and "charging" be the battery gone bad?
or maybe i messed something up at the dc jack?
thanks again to anyone that can help me out!

Asus g46vw help with missing cap unknown value
Board History:
Replaced the DC Jack because the original part had a broken pin
the laptop booted up
battery was maybe 7% or so
showed plugged in and charging but battery ran out and then stayed at 0%
it shut off suddenly
rebooted a few times but shut off quicker each time
now it was not booting or showing any lights or anything
then i tried holding down the power button for a minute - worked but soon died
took out the dc jack - looked fine so i reinstalled it
noticed a cap that was sticking up on one side - somehow it broke...
